JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department is excited to announce a paid student internship opportunity for interested students for the Spring 2025 semester. We will strive to provide participants hands-on experience covering the whole unit of University Police and Public Safety Department.

The Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department is responsible for protecting and serving more than 100,000 students, employees as well as visitors at 22 campuses located throughout Pennsylvania. We are a cohesive and centralized department with sworn police officers who have full law enforcement authority serving the 22 campuses with our headquarters being located at University Park.

We are looking for interested students who want to have an internship experience that allows them a chance to see all facets of a police department in a University setting. Interns will be exposed to our specialist units (K9, Criminal Investigations, Drone, Community Oriented Policing (COP) etc),attend court, see behind the scenes at large University events or sporting events as well as seeing the day to day operations within our station and headquarters. Getting a well-rounded exposure to the teams that support our operations (Training, Records, Emergency Management, Physical Security and Dispatch).

Additional qualifications for interested candidates include: at least 18 years of age, currently enrolled as a student at an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least two years of coursework at an accredited college or university. A standard background check and fingerprint background check, will be required prior to hiring.

Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter clearly stating their reasons for applying for the internship with the Penn State University Police Department, their relevant qualifications (may include coursework), and their expectations of the internship program. Additionally, interested candidates are asked to upload a resume, and a list of three (3) professional or academic references. Successful candidates will also be required to provide an original copy of their current transcripts.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
