JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University (https://psu.edu) , Department of Animal Science is seeking a candidate for a Research Technologist to help facilitate day-to-day functioning and well-being of the laboratory. Selected candidate responsibilities will include:

Technologist Assistance

  • Provide technologist and safety training to students and other lab staff.

  • Provide technologist support for members of the laboratory.

Laboratory Management

  • Track the use of lab supplies and order supplies as needed.

  • Assist with budget management.

  • Conduct basic laboratory safety checks.

Research and Analysis

  • Conduct research experiments including (but not limited to): RNA isolation: cDNA synthesis; quantitative PCR; histological techniques; microscopy; immunohistochemistry; processing of blood and fluid samples; ELISA; protein extraction; western blotting.

  • Analyses of data generated and assistance with manuscript preparation.

  • Assist with management and handling of sheep and swine for research projects and be involved in preparation for and execution of sample collections.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of refunding.

Education and Experience:

This position will be filled at a professional or intermediate professional level depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and work experience. Requirements for a professional level are Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requirements for an intermediate professional level are Bachelor's degree, plus 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Enthusiasm to learn about reproductive physiology and laboratory techniques.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, multi-task and prioritize.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Experience working with large animals.

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $55,500.00
