JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Pennsylvania State University (https://psu.edu) , Department of Animal Science is seeking a candidate for a Research Technologist to help facilitate day-to-day functioning and well-being of the laboratory. Selected candidate responsibilities will include:
Technologist Assistance
Provide technologist and safety training to students and other lab staff.
Provide technologist support for members of the laboratory.
Laboratory Management
Track the use of lab supplies and order supplies as needed.
Assist with budget management.
Conduct basic laboratory safety checks.
Research and Analysis
Conduct research experiments including (but not limited to): RNA isolation: cDNA synthesis; quantitative PCR; histological techniques; microscopy; immunohistochemistry; processing of blood and fluid samples; ELISA; protein extraction; western blotting.
Analyses of data generated and assistance with manuscript preparation.
Assist with management and handling of sheep and swine for research projects and be involved in preparation for and execution of sample collections.
This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of refunding.
Education and Experience:
This position will be filled at a professional or intermediate professional level depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and work experience. Requirements for a professional level are Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requirements for an intermediate professional level are Bachelor's degree, plus 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desirable Skills
Enthusiasm to learn about reproductive physiology and laboratory techniques.
Ability to effectively communicate, multi-task and prioritize.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Experience working with large animals.
Experience with molecular biology techniques.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$34,800.00 - $55,500.00
