JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking a proven Engineer with an electronics and/or electrical background to join our Systems and Operations Automation (SOA) team of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL/Penn State’s purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs.

The SOA Division engages in projects related to hardware/software technologies for autonomous systems, data acquisition and machine learning for asset health monitoring and life cycle management, vehicle cybersecurity and asset improvement and designing and building of integrated prototypes for unique, complex systems.

Unique to the SOA Division, some of our projects span from requirements definitions to design, prototype build, test, refinement and full functional testing in the operational and/or military environment. We are a full service, hands-on group that focuses on deliverables.

You will:

  • Work individually and in a team environment to design, build and test electrical and/or software control systems

  • Work on multiple projects, simultaneously

  • Collaborate with sponsors and engineers to define requirements and establish project related goals and deliverables

  • Learn new hardware and/or software systems based on the requirements from the project

  • Document and communicate all work to allow sharing and team cooperation

  • Travel occasionally to support projects

Minimally requires a Bachelors’ degree in an engineering or science discipline and 14 years’ related experience. A Masters’ degree or a PhD preferred.

Required skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Electronic control and data acquisition systems

  • Designing and building embedded systems

  • Mechanical systems and how to integrate electrical controls

  • Electrical power systems and power distribution (AC and DC)

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$123,200.00 - $191,000.00
