JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Near-Field Optics of 2D-materials.

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Scholar position either in theoretical near-field physics of surface polaritons or in experimental sSNOM characterization of 2D-materials. Successful candidate will work with Professor Slava V. Rotkin at the Materials Research Institute and the Engineering Science and Mechanics departments, and is expected to have a minimum of three years of experience in theory of physics of polaritons or in experimental near-field microscopy, respectively, and to be able to independently run research projects. Successful candidate will join a group working on nanoscale optical characterization of 2D-materials using the custom-built Neaspec instrument and should be willing to collaborate on active projects.

Solid expertise in physics of polaritons (theoretical position) or sSNOM operation (experimental position) is required; additional expertise in the following areas is welcome (but not a requirement) – advanced optical characterization and quantum optics, quantum information applications, near-field instrumentation development, and other scanning probe techniques. Strong analytical and programming skills is a plus.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics or another related field and, ideally, at least some post-graduate experience; several relevant publications in high-impact factor journals and other records demonstrating capability to conduct above-mentioned work; and dedication to academic work and motivation to develop in this area. A successful candidate is expected to perform either theoretical or experimental work, interact daily with graduate and undergraduate students, write papers and participate in research projects, build her/his own expertise, and prepare for the future career. This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
