JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Materials Research Institute (http://www.mri.psu.edu/) (MRI) is currently seeking a Part-Time STEM major undergraduate researcher for a 10-week position during the summer. This position offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to delve into research within a collaborative team environment. Reflecting the organizational structure typical of the semiconductor industry, this position immerses students in interdisciplinary work that includes materials growth, materials characterization, device fabrication, device testing and performance. The student is required to work 30-40 hours a week. The expectation is that the student would be fully available during business hours without classes or other obligations. This is a term position starting May 27th and ending August 2nd.

Duties would include:

  • Attending professional development lectures

  • Attending weekly status meetings

  • Working in collaborative teams

  • Training and operating semiconductor equipment

  • Keeping a lab notebook

  • Working with a mentor

  • Progress presentations

  • End of summer symposium attendance to present summary of work

Overall, the position equips undergraduates with practical skills, industry exposure, and a collaborative mindset, preparing them for future endeavors in nanomanufacturing and related fields.

Qualifications include:

  • Must be enrolled in a STEM field major at PSU

  • Excellent communication

  • Be able to follow instructions

  • Must be organized

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Available during the 10-week job term
