JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for an Engineering Support Specialist to join our Facilities and Instrumentation Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. This position will assist with various activities throughout the department and to provide technical support to R&D engineer.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

Responsibilities include:

  • Mechanical test hardware fabrication and test facility modifications, upgrades and repairs

  • Facility operator for all testing facilities that are operated under this office

  • Setup instrumentation and data acquisition hardware related to the testing facilities

  • Mechanical inspection/quality control of parts

  • Assemble components and install complex models in various water tunnel testing facilities

  • Assist other research personnel with their work as needed

  • Work cooperatively in a small research group

  • May work as part of a test project support team, in the laboratory, or in the field

This position may require work in confined spaces.

This position can be filled at multiple levels, depending upon your education and experience. Typical requirements include an Associate’s Degree or higher in a technical program; 2+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

Required skills and experience include:

  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings.

  • Ability and knowledge to repair various filters, pumps, and valve assemblies.

  • Knowledge of air compressors and systems.

  • Ability to us basic hand and power tools safely.

Preferred skills and experience include:

  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Prior experience in mechanical design.

  • Prior experience assembling prototype models and complex mechanical assemblies.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $81,500.00
