JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Animal Science at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Clinical Professor of Precision Dairy Nutrition. This position is a 36-week academic year, non-tenure line faculty appointment with 70% extension and 30% research responsibilities and is located on the University Park campus.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will develop a robust extension and applied research program focused on dairy nutrition and precision feeding. Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, design, implement, and evaluate educational and applied research programs for dairy producers, employees, and industry representatives

  • Provide education and technical assistance for dairy producers in precision feeding, feeding management and optimal nutrient management

  • Conduct extension education programs utilizing a variety of methodologies including in-person workshops, online webinars, podcasts, videos, social media posts, print articles, fact sheets, and other media as appropriate

  • Maintain and grow the Penn State Nutrition Workshop

*Collaborate with dairy science and crop science faculty to conduct applied precision feeding research

*In collaboration with other faculty, secure extramural funding for applied research projects focused on applied dairy nutrition and nutrient management

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Animal Science, Dairy Science, or related discipline with demonstrated research accomplishments in dairy nutrition or nutrient management is preferred. Applicants with a Master's Degree and additional relevant experience will also be considered. The successful candidate must have a good understanding of feeding management, precision feeding, and nutrient management. Excellent communication skills and evidence of effective teaching are essential. Bilingual (English and Spanish) language skills will be viewed favorably. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to work cooperatively and engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, dairy producers, and industry leaders is required.
