JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Engineering Advising Center (https://advising.engr.psu.edu/) within Penn State's College of Engineering is an innovative, knowledgeable, and collaborative team that fosters networks of resources, guidance, and direction for students. We are seeking an Academic Adviser to join our team in providing academic advising to first and second-year engineering students. The Academic Adviser will be responsible for serving students in navigating their unique learning experiences and helping them determine appropriate academic plans.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Advise students about academic programs, as well as assess other needs and make professional referrals.

  • Maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records.

  • Guide students in course selection and scheduling.

  • Resolve academic problems, escalating unusual matters.

  • Identify and monitor academic progress.

  • Participate in various college programs, such as New Student Orientation, Accepted Student Programs, and group advising presentations.

  • Interact with students, parents, faculty, and various college staff members.

Requirements and Qualifications:

The Academic Adviser position will be filled as Intermediate Professional or Advanced Professional, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. A master's degree and 1+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level positions. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a desire to work with students in a high-volume center are necessities for success in this position. The successful candidate will have a background in working with high school or college-aged students and a proven track record and commitment to serving diverse student populations.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $67,300.00
