Saginaw Valley State University Budget Manager in University Center, Michigan

Full-Time, Exempt , Administrative/Professional Salary Range:  $70,000 to $80,000

 

*JOB SUMMARY: *The Budget Manager is responsible for overseeing budgeting and related business management functions in support of the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Business Affairs. This role involves coordinating the development of major operating budgets, preparing revenue and expenditure projections, and monitoring financial performance to aid in the budgeting process.

* ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:*

  • * *Advise the Vice President for Administration and Business Affairs on budgeting processes.
  • Coordinate the development of the University's major operating budgets, including the general fund, auxiliary operations, and capital projects.
  • Prepare revenue and expenditure projections, including tuition rate formulation and salary/benefit modeling.
  • Monitor and analyze budgeted revenue and expenditure variances, recommending corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Monitor divisional initiatives related to the identification and use of best practices, benchmarking, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Facilitate by-position budgeting.
  • Create and facilitate construction and renovation project budgets.
  • Create budget measures and metrics to determine adequacy and necessary adjustments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Supervision is received from the Vice President for Administration & Business Affairs.

* SUPERVISION EXERCISED*:

This position supervises the Business Analyst.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • * *Bachelor's degree in a business-related field.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting or financially related field.
  • Strong financial, statistical, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of university and/or non-profit budgeting procedures.
  • Strong commitment to the needs of divisional stakeholders combined with well-developed problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Strong technology skills with proficiencies in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized software programs.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

* *Master's degree in business or public administration, finance, or related field and/or professional certification.
