NBC Universal Data Engineering & Analytics Internships - Media Tech Summer 2025 in Universal City, California

At our Universal City office interns will have access to the NBCUCommutes program, which provides fully subsidized transit passes to full-time lower lot employees, good for unlimited rides on all Metro bus and rail, such as the Metro Red Line. 

Summer 2025 Recruitment Timeline:   

September 16 – October 4: Applications Open (may close early due to applicant volume)  

Mid-September – Late October: First round video interviews   

Early to mid-November: Second round interviews  

Late November: Selected candidates receive offers  

Summer 2025 Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: October 4th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!  

  • Program Dates: June 2 – August 8, 2025 

  • Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  

  • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Universal City, CA.

Here at NBCU, we strive to be on the forefront of leading-edge technology and are seeking a savvy troop of technologists we call Media Tech Interns.   

Our program exposes students to technical opportunities across NBCUniversal’s Operations & Technology organizations and serves as a main pipeline into our Rotational Associate Programs. As a NBCUniversal Media Tech Intern, you will gain hands-on experience, allowing you to apply your classroom knowledge to practical situations. We offer a 2 day in-person orientation in our NY office where we bring all interns together to meet each other and various business leaders.   

Students will experience firsthand how one of the largest media and entertainment companies in the world operates and delivers strategic, innovative solutions. 

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  

  • Data & Analytics, Consumer: On this team, specific Data & Analytics 2024 project work is expected to involve Generative AI and LLMs for use in enhancing the knowledge and marketing for many lines of business, including, but not limited to Film, Content Analytics, and Ad Sales. The intern will get to partner with NBCU analytics and application platforms to understand their process flows, identify gaps, and then implement enhancements that optimize for performance and cost, incorporate Cyber Security guidelines and standards that protect the integrity of NBCUniversal content and data within our applications. Pilot and test (proofs-of-concept) new technologies and vendor services to give directional guidance and inform decisions for our evolving tech stacks, participate in the production deployment and day-to-day support of engineering solutions implemented in the cloud (AWS, Google, or Azure), which can also include opportunities for API or front-end development and create data visualizations using dashboard platforms like Power BI and Tableau. 

     

  • Enterprise Analytics, Infrastructure: NBCU is looking for an IT individual to work closely with the Infrastructure Enterprise Analytics leadership. The current requirement is to collect and report Infrastructure data of servers, databases, web/app services, and storage devices. This data will be used to provide insights of allocated capacity and utilization of infrastructure to application portfolios. The intern will support mining data from multiple infrastructure systems, write and revise SQL queries to acquire data and perform ad-hoc analyses, establish data pipelines and transformations, and create and maintain product documentation including requirements and data dictionaries.  

Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (June 2025 through August 2025). May 2025 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2025 Internship Program. 

  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 

  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States. 

  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA. 

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.  

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.   

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 

  • Comfortable with a coding language and its best-practice principles (Python, JavaScript, etc.). 

  • Comfortable with SQL and its use in data warehouse analytics for load and transformation. 

  • Conceptual understanding of CI/CD and infrastructure scripting tools. 

  • Understanding with prior hands-on using cloud services (i.e., within AWS, Google, or MS Azure). 

  • Familiarity with Scrum/Agile principles for managing engineering work. 

  • Basic / Mediocre skills in writing Structured Queries. 

  • Basic / Mediocre skills working with Application Interfaces (API). 

  • Basic / Mediocre skills working with analytics/business intelligence platforms to create Visualizations/Dashboards. 

  • Experience in Microsoft PowerBI / Tableau reporting and visualizations. 

  • Familiarity with Agile software development teams and practices. 

  • Experience with development tools such as JIRA and GitHub. 

     

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00 

The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $30.00 

The hourly rate for MBA student interns is $30.00
