Executive Director of Risk Management and Safety
The Executive Director of Risk Management and Safety (Executive Director 2) at Kean University is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the university's comprehensive risk management and safety program. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Integrated Health, Safety and Response Services, this position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of the university community and its property, while also identifying, assessing and mitigating risks that may impact the university's operations, reputation and financial stability. Additionally, the Executive Director will lead emergency management and hazard mitigation functions to enhance the university's resilience and preparedness for unforeseen events.
The Executive Director will provide oversight, support and education on important risk issues for Kean’s multiple locations. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. This employee is considered essential and must have the ability to be on-call/respond to campus for emergency situations when appropriate.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and a minimum of six years of professional experience in safety, risk management and emergency management is required, preferably in a higher education setting. A driver's license valid in New Jersey is also required in order to perform essential duties of this position. Relevant professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) are a plus. Candidate must have strong knowledge of safety and security best practices, risk assessment methodologies, emergency management and crisis response; proficiency in safety, enterprise risk management and emergency management software and tools; knowledge of relevant laws and regulations in higher education and safety, risk management and emergency management; the ability to work collaboratively and lead cross-functional teams; and excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
