Key job responsibilities

A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Battery Team Manager is responsible for overseeing the team that manages and maintains the battery systems for UPS's. The key responsibilities of a UPS Battery Team Manager typically include:

Team Management:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of technicians and specialists responsible for UPS battery maintenance and replacement.

  • Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide guidance and support to team members.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and ensure adherence to safety protocols and industry standards.

Battery System Maintenance:

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for UPS battery systems.

  • Oversee regular inspections, testing, and monitoring of battery systems to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues.

  • Coordinate battery replacements and upgrades as needed, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to operations.

Project Management:

  • Plan and manage large-scale battery replacement projects, ensuring timely completion within budget and quality standards.

  • Coordinate with other teams, such as facilities management, to ensure seamless integration and minimal disruption during battery system upgrades or replacements.

Inventory Management:

  • Manage the inventory of spare batteries, ensuring adequate stock levels and timely procurement of replacement batteries.

  • Implement inventory tracking systems and maintain accurate records of battery installations, replacements, and warranties.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and industry standards related to UPS battery systems and their safe handling, storage, and disposal.

  • Develop and implement safety protocols and training programs for team members to mitigate risks associated with battery handling and maintenance.

Vendor Management:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with battery manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers.

  • Negotiate contracts, evaluate vendor performance, and ensure timely delivery and quality of products and services.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Develop and manage the budget for UPS battery maintenance, replacements, and related projects.

  • Analyze costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize resource utilization.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on battery system performance, maintenance activities, and project status to stakeholders and management.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including maintenance logs, battery specifications, and warranty information.

The UPS Battery Team Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and continuous operation of critical power systems by effectively managing the team responsible for maintaining and replacing UPS battery systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to work in the following physical conditions with reasonable accommodations:

A day in the life

We are seeking an energetic Data Center Facility Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader within Amazon data centers. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The Data Center Facility Manager will oversee operations and management of technicians responsible for routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc. They will assist in maintaining a high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

You'll also be responsible for managing your team's schedules, ensuring proper training and certifications, and maintaining inventory levels of batteries and equipment. Effective communication with clients, vendors, and your team is crucial to ensure seamless operations and timely resolution of any issues.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent diploma

  • 2+ years of experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other mission critical environment with knowledge in UPS, Generators, HVAC, Evaporators and other critical infrastructure OR 7+ years of Technical (Military/Trade School) training and/or experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced electrical or mechanical certifications (Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline)

  • 3+ years of experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports

  • 5+ years of experience working in a data center or other mission critical environment with an emphasis on building and equipment operation

  • An excellent understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAHU units

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, technical writing or business justifications (white paper experience)
