Material/Process Tech I:Performs routine material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Material/Process Tech II:Performs routine and non-routine material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Material/Process Tech III:Performs advanced material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Essential Duties:Material/ Process Tech I:Assists in maintaining equipment.Assists in preparing material designs for concrete, hot mix asphaltic concrete, base, aggregate, and other materials. Cleans laboratory.Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.Informs plant personnel of material or production problems and rejects substandard material.Keeps equipment mileage and service records and schedules equipment repairs.Performs routine material tests and inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant to ensure materials conform to Department specifications; as required moves material samples.Prepares inspection or test reports.Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Material/Process Tech II all the above and:Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determiningcause for material problems.Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.Plans, coordinates, performs or directs inspections in remote areas.Material/Process Tech III all the above and: Independently performs advanced material tests, inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturingplant or inspects materials at point of supply to ensure conformance to Department specifications.Maintains and calibrates equipment.Maintains field record books for each construction project within assigned area office.Performs tests and inspection duties.Plans, coordinates, assigns, monitors and reviews the work of technical employees.Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.Travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status ofprograms, meet with supervisors and managers to resolve problems and perform unannounced inspection of operations.
