TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E280 Transportation Engineer I, II, or III in Tyler, Texas

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Transportation Engineer I : follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Transportation Engineer II : perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisorTransportation Engineer III : establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues arerarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrenceEssential Duties: Transportation Engineer I:Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technicalsupport.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer II - all of the above and:Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Transportation Engineer III - all of the above and:Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complexprojects.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing forcomplex transportation projects.Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.Testifies at condemnation hearings and trials.Trains engineering staff.
