Virgin Galactic Specialist Engineer, Product Safety in Tustin, California

Develop Product Safety artifacts and own Product Safety/Human factors process development for new and existing designs and evolving operations. An applicant must have experience with and be able to contribute ownership of and process improvement for multiple safety analyses from both of the major safety areas below:

1.Human Factors Analysis (HFA)

•Human Factors Planning for 14 CFR Part 460.15 and 14 CFR Part 450

•Human Error Assessment

•Cockpit Working Group support

•Derivation of human factors requirements for safety

2.System Safety Analysis (SSA)

•Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

•Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)

•Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)

•Risk identification, prioritization, and management

•Provide support and risk advice to production, maintenance, technical, project or program personnel

•Integrate your deliverable work and the work of your peers into the process flow and design development of the Program

What you bring

Educational Requirements:

•B.S. or M.S. degree in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics, or Physics from an accredited university

Knowledge/Experience:

•Expert level of Knowledge of Systems Engineering development lifecycles

•Knowledge of software development practices and design assurance methods such as DO-178 or ARP4754 preferred

•Knowledge of electronic hardware design assurance methods such as DO-254 preferred

•Knowledge of FAA commercial space regulations preferred, CFR §400

•Knowledge of 14 CFR §460.15 preferred

•Experience with the system safety methods of ARP4761 or MIL-STD-882, with emphasis on hazard mitigation processes

•Must have experience and knowledge in complex aviation systems including mechanical, electrical, and software integrated systems

•Experience with human design interface with the above systems preferred

•Must have experience and capability to work unsupervised with a fault tree modeling software to model complex systems including mechanical, electrical, and software integrated systems

•Ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, to include schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings

Professional Requirements:

•15+ years of relevant experience in aerospace or system safety field

•Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and written communication skills

•Must be able to Explain difficult or sensitive information internally and to non system safety engineers; works to build consensus amongst team members for processes

•Team player with excellent communication skills both verbal and written

•Works independently, receives minimal guidance; may lead projects or may have accountability for on-going activities and impacts the direction and resource allocation for the accomplishment of the assigned projects.

•Anticipates program and technical issues and recommends improvements to process, products, and program.

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $132,100.00–$201,550.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
