Washington State Insurance Commissioner CIU Director (Exempt) in Tumwater, Washington

The Office of the Insurance Commissioner's (OIC) Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to fill a CIU Director (Exempt) position.   This position is located in our Irving Street, Tumwater{rel="nofollow"} office.

You can find more information about benefits at Benefits - careers.wa.gov{rel="nofollow"}.   The CIU Director assigns, supervises, and oversees the work of professional staff accountable for identifying, investigating, arresting, and prosecuting individuals and organizations engaged in fraudulent activity targeting consumers and the insurance industry. 

The CIU Director is also expected to be an active member of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC).  Membership to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is also encouraged. * *

Duties

  • Assign investigations to detectives and support case management of investigations.
  • Coordinate special investigations and task forces.
  • Coordinate investigation activity and oversight, and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies and local, state, and federal prosecutors.
  • Develop enforcement policy concerning insurance crimes and violations of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW).
  • Ensure employees are given regular, timely feedback on performance; actively monitor employee's progress and performance.

Qualifications

  • Must have worked as a commissioned, Washington State law enforcement officer (certification) within the last 24 months prior to the date of hire or in the Criminal Investigations Unit of the OIC in a law enforcement position.
  • Ten years progressively responsible experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer, to include at least 5 years of management experience over personnel.
  • Able to meet OIC Employment Standards for Law Enforcement Positions:

Must be a United States citizen.

Possess a driver's license that is valid in Washington State.

No felony convictions.

No misdemeanor convictions related to controlled substances, theft, moral turpitude, fraud, larceny, or crimes of violence anytime while working in the criminal justice system.

No crimes committed as an adult, currently prosecutable under the statute of limitations.

Not convicted of any crime associated with domestic violence.

No DUI conviction within the last five years, or a substantial accumulation of driving violations which indicates a disregard for rules and regulations.

No current use or possession of illegal narcotics or controlled substances.

Have not used any illegal drug(s) while employed in a criminal justice and/or law enforcement capacity.

No use of illegal drug or controlled substance in the last 5 years.

Refrain from excessive alcohol consumption.

Be able to legally acquire and possess firearms and ammunition.

Be willing and able to make an arrest and handle suspected violators.
