    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Employee performs phlebotomy and routine tests in a medical laboratory and maintains records. Work is performed under general supervision.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy and processing of specimens to be sent to outside labs.

  • Primarily assist in the phlebotomy room to draw blood.

  • Restock the phlebotomy area as needed.

  • Transport patients' blood and gold slips to the main lab area in a timely manner to be processed and centrifuged.

  • Pour off urine specimens to be sent to reference labs.

  • Pack up specimens with requisitions to send out labs.

  • Assist 6th-floor lab technician for if needed assistance and backup.  

  • Cleans and restocks laboratory facility.

  • Assist lab technicians as needed.

  • Performs related duties as required.

     

    Qualifications: 

    Must be able to perform essential and non-essential duties satisfactorily. The individual must be able to multitask and have strong attention to detail. Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds. Excellent telephone skills and etiquette. Ability to work well under pressure.

    Education and/or Experience: 

    High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in phlebotomy of at least one or more years is preferred. Medical terminology is required.

    Language Skills:  

    Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to effectively communicate with staff and clients.

    Reasoning Ability:  

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

    Computer Skills: 

    Must have knowledge of Medical Software and Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Strong PC skills and well-versed in using Internet applications.

    Physical Demands:  

    Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting books and files of approximately 50 lbs. or less. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/or operating a keyboard.
