Job Summary:

We are looking for a Payee Services Coordinator to join VOAOK. As client Payee Services Coordinator you will be at the frontline of connecting with clients and provide financial guidance and improvements to some of our most vulnerable clients. The Payee Services Coordinator assists individuals experiencing mental illness, homelessness, or disability with payment of monthly bills to ensure stable housing and independence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Social Services, Business, Public Relations or a related field of study or equivalent work experience as determined by the Director of Payee Services and/or the Director of Human Resources
  • Social work and/or case management experience, preferably in the mental health or community services fields
  • Accounting software experience
  • Competent user of all MS Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Understanding of common billing and payment processes
  • Must be able to operate general office equipment: Desktop computer, printer, scanner, etc)
  • Bookkeeping and/or general accounting abilities
  • Organized and able to multitask
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently with little oversight and prioritize time appropriately
  • Current drivers license and motor vehicle insurance

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Empathize with client without compromising their livelihood and remain calm in difficult situations
  • Keep accurate notes on each client
  • Interacting and being of service to a variety of clients with special needs
  • Forecast, create, implement, and maintain multiple household budgets
  • Communicate and network appropriately with co-workers and outside community services
  • Communicate within the clients personality and within their level of understanding
  • Empathize with each client without compromising their livelihood; explain the no compassionately
  • Assist consumers in the development of a personal budget with rent, food, and utilities having top priority
  • Responsible for the intake appointment, paperwork processing and explaining the Payee Services program to new clients
  • Review disbursements of funds with consumers
  • Provide on-going consultation on money management
  • Assume responsibility for timely planning and preparation of check requests for consumers on a monthly and weekly basis
  • Issue checks to consumers and vendors on a weekly basis or as needed
  • Must be able to help identify other needs client may have and provide referrals; follow through by maintaining a close working relationship with community agency case managers and staff, ensuring clients are getting the optimal services and advocacy they require
  • Provide assistance in maintaining client services with other agencies; foods stamps, etc.
  • Responsible for completing and filing all necessary paperwork from the Social Security Administration such as yearly Representative Payee Accounting Reports

Work Environment:

This is an on-site position in an office setting. Typical hours of operatio are 8-5 Monday through Friday with occasional availability after or before hours and occasional weekend availability.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to push or pull up to 20lbs. Position requires pushing, pulling, sitting for extended periods of time, staring at computer screens for extended periods of time, constant finger motion, bending, grasping, clasping, walking, stretching, kneeling, crouching and lifting.

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience in social services or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing hardships due to lack of employment, housing instability, addiction disorders and/or mental health disorders preferred.
  • Experience with employment counseling, resume building and the current job market preferred.
