The team you will be a part of

The Material Management team is responsible for inventory audits and maintaining inventory at optimum levels. Develops procedures to enhance the effectiveness of inventory control programs. Coordinates with relevant departments to schedule, audit, and reconcile periodic physical inventories. Oversees incoming shipments of merchandise to ensure that inventory is accurate, updated and provided according to schedules.

This role in summary

The Material Manager is responsible for oversight of all material flow, planning, scheduling and execution for the operations. The leader in this role acts as the liaison between Manufacturing and Procurement. In this role, you will support continuous improvement with the development of people and of our future state, through materials planning, improved material flow, and implementation of lean principles and technology. You will be the leader of the Materials Planning function, Production Scheduling as well as a team of associates supporting the Whirlpool Production System (WPS). You will be accountable for the entire supply chain for the Tulsa plant including suppliers in the US, Mexico, and Europe assuring high levels of traceability and performance. You are responsible for maintaining daily follow-ups with critical suppliers and ensuring no disruptions to the production schedule. This job function manages the material flow (Route Setup, Demand Signal, Production Scheduling, Cycle Counting, Inventory Accuracy, Production Levelling and Smoothing, technology integration into the material handling and storage processes, and management of resource consumption.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Adherence to policies and procedures of Inventory Management (internal and external controls)

  • Lead the material planning function and production scheduling with internal parties and external suppliers respecting manufacturing constraint

  • Accountable to enforce and manage commercial relationships with suppliers to ensure efficient flow of parts into the operation

  • Work with manufacturing leadership and cross functional teams to optimize total cost and to maintain inventory targets that support our ability to deliver the promise to our customers

  • Report to material and manufacturing leadership on production status and identify countermeasures

  • Serve as a point of contact for cross-functional partners - both internal to Whirlpool and external.

  • Prioritizes and organizes short term and long term goals and activities in accordance with business objectives.

  • Identify and lead continuous improvement efforts through involvement in the strategic materials management planning process and the execution of activities defined in that process.

  • Ensure strict adherence to all Whirlpool manufacturing standards/methods.

  • Live the Whirlpool Leadership Model and drive it within your team.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required (preferably Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering)

  • Knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain concepts and parts flow.

Preferred skills and experiences

  • 5 to 7 years leadership experience in a supply chain focused or manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Strong understanding of Materials Management is an asset

  • Profound understanding of the Lean manufacturing methodology and application

  • Proven track record in driving results in materials management

  • A broad understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and SAP

  • Prior experience managing supplier and/or cross functional relationships.
