About the position

The Workshop Technician will be responsible for ensuring a safe and reliable experience and journey through the workshop. The role will involve working closely with a team, especially the Workshop Manager, to improve and develop our workshop offering. Responsible for producing, designing, crafting, and testing wood products such as cabinets and furniture using specialized tools.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, produce, and test wood products.

  • Build furniture using hand tools.

  • Review and provide an appropriate work completion schedule.

  • Oversee and instruct fellow workers in shaping and trimming the wood correctly.

  • Complete all stages of woodworking process.

  • Using hand tools and woodworking machinery for cutting, trimming, and shaping wood

  • Cut, shape, and smooth wooden parts.

  • Add fasteners and adhesives and connect the pieces to form a complete unit.

  • Operate specialized pieces of woodworking machinery.

  • Outlining and cutting wood as per the dimensions

  • Ensuring all dimensions are correct

  • Applying polish, paint or stain to ready furniture

  • Assist in managing furniture production and shipping

  • Assist in development and maintaining of inventory of all tools and equipment.

  • Safety train authorized personnel on the use of all equipment and tools.

  • Participate in community building activities as appropriate to position.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    What You Will Bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) or equivalent training or work experience

  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification

  • Tuberculosis test from a health professional

  • Valid AZDPS Fingerprint Clearance card.

  • A minimal knowledge of contemporary substance abuse treatment practices in a residential setting.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with a high level of empathy.

  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectively under pressure generated through association with substance abuse students.
