The Salvation Army Kitchen Helper in Tucson, Arizona

LOCATION: Hospitality House – 1002 N. Main Ave.

STATUS: FT/40 Hours/Week

SHIFT: Tuesday-Saturday – 9:30am – 6:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/GED required

  • Attention to detail

  • Able to operate the equipment available while doing the required job function

  • Must be able to work independently in a detailed manner

  • Able to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation

  • Able to work in refrigerator/freezer space for long periods of time

  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices

  • Able to read instructions and apply them to use of chemicals and cleaners

  • Successful background clearance

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean, scrub, sanitize kitchen oven, tilt skillets, meat slicer, burners and all other kitchen equipment

  • Clean vent inserts, run through dishwasher

  • Scrub kitchen floors and give extra attention to high traffic areas, such as serving line and dish pit

  • Load, run and unload dishwasher after each meal

  • Store all tableware and kitchenware after cleaning

  • Mop walk-in at least every other day

  • Clean all stainless-steel surfaces, including roll down doors and serving/buffet tables in dining room

  • Haul trash to dumpster as needed

  • Clean dining room, wiping tables, sweep, mop, sanitize exterior of serving window, ice machine and other areas used by clients

  • Regularly maintain cleanliness of food holding areas, hot boxes, reach in refrigerator and freezer

  • Unpack, weigh, and store all food and nonfood donations daily in appropriate areas

  • Keep food pantry, and kitchen storage areas organized, clean and outdated items disposed of

  • Inform supervisor of cleaning supply needs, or any functional or mechanical problems with equipment

  • Assist with daily sandwich preparation and filling take out sack lunches with appropriate items when time allows

  • Assist with various food preparation and the serving line when time allows

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor as it relates to the position of Kitchen Helper

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
