job summary:

A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Tucson, AZ area. This role focuses on developing and testing Battery Management System (BMS) software for electric vehicles, requiring expertise in controls, data analysis, and collaboration across teams.

work hours: 8am to 5pm

responsibilities:

  • Perform software testing using Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and in-application testing for BMS software integration.

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of control software issues to identify root causes and propose solutions.

  • Perform data analysis across Conformance, Performance, and Validation test protocols.

  • Review models in Simulink.

  • Support Lithium-Ion battery system performance and validation tests in the lab for software release.

  • Oversee Lithium-Ion battery system testing, ensuring data quality, result integrity, and repeatability.

  • Write requirements, procedures, and reports, and formally present test outcomes.

  • Communicate technical information to internal and external stakeholders, team members, and suppliers.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related Engineering fields.

  • 2 to 4 years of relevant experience with specified technical skills.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink and Control Desk.

  • strong expertise in CANape, ETAS, ECM, and J1939 communication tools.

  • Functional knowledge of Battery Management Systems.

Desired Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of Control Systems design and software validation tools for unit testing and SIL.

  • Familiarity with Plant Model integration, HIL benches, and electrical components (e.g., switches, sensors, actuators).

  • Understanding of embedded software, Electrification, and EV technologies.

  • Familiarity with the company's products and previous Engineering experience with the company is a plus.
