Qualifications for Employment

Education (Minimum Requirements): Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field; or Associates Degree in Accounting or a related field and a minimum of 4 years related experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong technical and analytical skills required. Experience with financial reconciliations on computerized accounting system. Strong attention to detail; ability to multi-task and manage priorities; strong computer skills required. Competent with Microsoft Office applications. Experience in Financial Aid Administration and with Banner System preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties:

The Assistant Director of Student Financial Services, reports to the Associate Director of Student Financial Services or their designee and performs the following duties:

• Responsible for ensuring compliance in timely completion of Reconciliation for all Title IV Funds.

• Assists with certification and is responsible for the reconciliation of all New York State grant and scholarship programs.

• Responsible for the certification, returns, and reconciliation of Private Education loans.

• In collaboration with the Foundation, provides timely awarding and reconciliation of scholarship awards.

• Assists the Associate Director with administration and monthly reconciliation of the federal work-study program.

• Maintains procedures and reports necessary to complete annual federal, state and institutional reporting requirements and prepares report information for review by the Director of Student Financial Services. Including review and compilation of audit samples to ensure accuracy and completeness.

• Assists with month and year-end Account Analysis.

• In the absence of the Assistant Bursar, responsible for preparation of reconciliations and analysis of student account balances to general ledger postings on the Banner system.

• Counsel’s students and parents in all areas of financial aid to include: Application procedures, Verification procedures, Packaging/determination of program eligibility, professional judgement and appeals.

• Maintains expertise in all areas of financial aid to ensure compliance; including regulatory changes that will impact the department; participates in off-campus training, as needed; acts as a resource related to relevant rules and regulations;

• Provides financial aid services to students, parents and others; prepares and presents financial aid workshops; and assists with addressing and resolving student issues.

• Serve as backup for phones, counter and assisting students in the computer lab as needed.

• Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a Full-Time 37.5 hour a week position with a salary range of $47,000-$50,000.
