Group Summary

Magna is more than one of the world’s largest suppliers in the automotive space. We are a mobility technology company built to innovate, with a global, entrepreneurial-minded team. With 65+ years of expertise, our ecosystem of interconnected products combined with our complete vehicle expertise uniquely positions us to advance mobility in an expanded transportation landscape.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and driven Data Scientist with mid-level experience to lead and contribute to data-driven solutions in the areas of operations research and geospatial analysis. This position will bridge the gap between data science and management, playing a key role in applying advanced analytics to optimize business processes and drive strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in geospatial data analysis, operations research, and experience managing cross-functional teams, with a particular focus on routing optimization and traffic data analysis.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement geospatial and operational research models to solve complex business challenges, such as supply chain optimization, routing, and resource allocation.

  • Lead a small team of data scientists, providing mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise to drive high-quality deliverables.

  • Conduct spatial data analysis, integrating geographic information systems (GIS) and related tools to derive actionable insights for business applications.

  • Design and optimize algorithms for route planing, location intelligence, and network analysis, enhancing the efficiency of operational workflows.

  • Work with open-source routing engines (e.g., Valhalla, OSRM) and vehicle routing problem (VRP) tools to model and optimize vehicle and delivery routing.

  • Incorporate geospatial data and traffic data into operational models to improve real-time decision-making for logistics and transportation.

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including business leaders and engineers, to understand operational needs and translate them into data science projects.

  • Develop decision-support models using optimization, simulation, and predictive analytics techniques.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in data science, with a focus on operations research and geospatial analysis.

  • Strong proficiency in GIS tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.

  • Experience with open-source routing engines (e.g., Valhalla, OSRM) and vehicle routing problem (VRP) tools.

  • Experience working with geospatial data, traffic data, and integrating these into routing models and other operational decision-making tools.

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL, as well as familiarity with geospatial libraries (e.g., Geopandas, Shapely).

  • Solid understanding of optimization techniques, such as linear programming, mixed-integer programming, and simulation models.

  • Proven track record of applying data science methodologies to solve business problems in logistics, transportation, or supply chain domains.

Your preferred qualifications

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, Scikit-learn) for predictive modeling.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based geospatial services such as AWS, Google Earth Engine, or similar platforms.

  • Understanding of business and economic considerations in operational decision-making processes
