For more information, please visit our website ator connect with us onor Position Summary/Objective Under minimal supervision and direction, the Scientist is responsible for the direction of Functional Coatings Applications Department composed of Scientists and formulators working on various programs focused primarily on barrier coatings technologies such as platform and product refinement and enhancement, broadening of technology, innovation and IP, including materials and testing, customer support; product and materials sampling, testing, and customer trials, improvements in reliability, consistency, efficiency and processes, and DfSS, Stage-Gate and GPM. Essential Job Functions: Responsible for leading Functional Coating (FC)projects and timely executing technical work assignments that develop enhanced FCplatform and product designs. Ensure consideration of economics and environmental, health and safety implications. Identify and understand the intellectual property for the developed technology including how it fits with regard to competitive IP landscape. Demonstrate professional expertise in coatings formulation and sharing knowledge through coaching, technical reports, team presentations, published articles and/or conference papers. Bring forward new ideas for growth, profitability and productivity and show innovation skills. Work both independently and effectively in collaboration with global technical, marketing and sales partners involved in the projects. Strong track record of innovation, product development and commercialization including the introduction of key technologies to meet market & customer requirements. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically about complex problems and anticipate future trends and needs. Hands on disposition with demonstrated lab skills related to coating formulation (solvent, water, energy curable (EC)). Comfortable working across development and application laboratories, process engineering and at customer's facilities. Results orientated with demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion and interact effectively. Scale-up of product manufacturing from pilot plant to production scale and associated product quality and performance CTQ's Support and attend customer trials with product recommendations and testing as required. Must utilize, monitor and advocate all development systems to include, but not limited to DfSS, GPM and Stage-Gate. Train laboratory staff in safe and efficient use of testing equipment and materials Represents and attends technical industrial associations in participatory roles as required Required Experience & Education: Advanced degree in Chemistry, Material Science or related field Minimum 3-5years Coatings & Inks product development as well as directly relevant work experience in printable coatings formulation, synthesis, and application testing. Preferred Education: PhD Competencies: Demonstrates a high level of theoretical and practical understanding of the field, a true subject matter expert. Must be competent and experienced in writing and presenting technical papers to/for peer journals, industry associations and professional societies.
