SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for the administration of the company’s cost accounting systems and processes. This person is accountable for the ongoing analysis of Cost of Goods Sold, Job/Inventory Costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The Cost Accountant must also assist in the development and monitoring of data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of reporting data to management. Reporting directly to the Compliance Manager; the ideal candidate will have the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Costs:

  • Maintain and monitor product costs.

  • Report on production variances to standard cost

  • Report on margins by product group

  • Assist in maintaining company policy to record scrap and wastage.

  • Work with engineering and product management to provide accurate cost estimates.

  • for new products.

  • Review cost procedures and make recommendations for improvements.

Inventory Control:

  • Produce accurate inventory evaluation reports based on perpetual records as needed.

  • and assist in the development of key ratios to monitor.

  • Monitor cycle counts for variances and resolve issues.

  • Co-ordinate physical inventory counts, and cycle counts with Inventory Manager.

  • Manage inventory cycle counts of controlled items and related spot checks in

  • conjunction with Inventory and Compliance departments.

  • Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close.

  • Develop and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Work with Inventory Control to locate and dispose of obsolete inventory.

  • Assist with annual audit of onsite inventory.

  • Assist in company goal to strive for ‘lean’ production.

  • Prepare Import/Export documentation in conjunction with Receiving/Shipping and Compliance.

General Accounting:

  • Assist Controller in annual budget preparation.

  • Compile cost information to be used in operating budget preparation.

  • Assist Controller in month end and year-end financial activities including, but not limited to, journal entries, account reconciliation and month end reports.

  • Prepare quarterly excise tax returns.

  • Responsible for performing and/or completing such other tasks and responsibilities as may be required and/or assigned to you by the Company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No direct supervisory responsibilities are assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Cost/Job Costing experience within a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Cost Accounting Standards

  • Ability to collaborate with various departments to solve problems as a team.

  • Must be able to adapt to enable efficient data gathering and analysis.

  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data.

  • Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills

  • High level of Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products

  • Strong organizational and communicational skills

  • Detail oriented

  • Knowledge of INFOR VISUAL ERP software is an advantage.

  • Experience of ERP implementing, or reimplementation is an advantage.

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

  • Prepared to travel on company business to Kimber locations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/ Finance

  • 3 to 5 years of Cost Costing experience within a manufacturing environment

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree in Accounting.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing ERP systems
