Job Summary

The industrial architect works in collaboration with the Leaders of our Technology Project Portfolio, Global Technology Center (GTC) and the Leaders of Manufacturing Engineering at our manufacturing locations – in Sweden, Norway as well as on the US East and West Coast – we call each location an Operations Center of Excellence (CoE).

Together with these leader’s it’s the industrial architects responsibility to develop the best industrial solutions based on GKN's current manufacturing foot print and our overall overall strategy. The industrial architect will ensure that manufacturing systems during early development phases. At GKN we have a gated process for this, Life Cycle Gate (LCG) 1-3 early development, LCG 4-6 Trial and implantation, LCG 7-9 operational improvement and sustainment. The industrial architect will focus on phases LCG 1-3 and 4-6, to ensure the right technology is developed and implemented in a timely and cost effective manner.

The goal is that the right level of requirements is achieved to maximize the appropriate use of manufacturing technologies and methods for our current manufacturing locations but also future industrial setups. It is an important role in building strong technical relationships between our technology organization and the CoE's current and future customer product portfolios.

Job Responsibilities

  • Set the standard for complex industrial systems and manufacturing processes prior to LCG 3. This includes full understanding of the customers’ requirements, designing the industrial layout, leverage of H2 (expand) & H3 (explore) technologies, deploying lean manufacturing principles.

  • Coordinate technical global forums together with local site Subject Matter Experts (SME) for new manufacturing technology needs (H2).

  • Close engagement with the Design organization and ME CoE on design/make New Product Introduction (NPI) programs to ensure DFM of new manufacturing technologies.

  • Collaborate with the Heads of Technology Portfolio, Heads of GTC and Heads of ME/CoE to define and execute strategic manufacturing technology initiatives (H2 & H3).

  • Ensure smooth transition from the technology development phase (pre LCG 3) to the Industrialization phase (post LCG 3) together with the Operational side of the business and its Industrialization/ME manager.

  • Establish and anchor a global ME process for industrialization of new manufacturing technologies and methods together with CoE's.

  • Work closely with the CoE/Site to ensure the Industrial concept is capable in the post LCG3 to LCG 7 phase.

  • Ability to travel (including internationally).

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the aerospace industry.

  • Proven self-starter who can work well within a team or on your own.

  • Proven experience in project management (e.g. NPI) and leading cross-functional teams.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • In-depth knowledge of certification processes and quality standards in aerospace (e.g. AS13100).

  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
