Saint-Gobain Research Engineer in TRAVELERS REST, South Carolina

JOB SUMMARY

Saint-Gobain Abrasives is seeking a driven and talented Research Engineer to join our R&D team in conducting hands-on development at the manufacturing and pilot scale for key development programs. Projects will focus on process and product development activities related to Saint-Gobain Abrasives’ extensive line of single-layer abrasive products. As a Research Engineer, the candidate will research and develop new technologies to improve processes and products within our business. Phases of development include: lab-scale validation, pilot, scale-up, and implementation of R&D processes and new products into manufacturing. The candidate will take project objectives and transform them in to actionable tasks including research of technologies, design and execution of experimentation, analysis of results, and generation of IP and technical reports. Under the direction of the Superabrasives Senior Research Engineers, the candidate will also design, run experiments, produce lab scale samples, operate pilot equipment, and analyze the experimental outcomes. In addition to designing experiments for the candidate’s primary projects, the candidate will be expected to conduct experiments to support projects led by others. This position is based out of the Saint-Gobain Abrasives’ manufacturing location in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

OVERVIEW:

• Conducts research and development on product and process related to the production and testing of various electroplated abrasive products.

• Provides technical support and assistance for trials, commissioning and troubleshooting of new technology utilizing WCM tools (6 Sigma) and principles.

• Utilizes sound technical knowledge of materials, processes, techniques, and products to improve on product performance to reduce costs, to maximize production, and to support new knowledge research.

• Responsible for thorough documentation and communication of projects, trial reports, scientific developments, etc.

• Prepares trial plans and leads manufacturing trials.

• Responsible for developing and presenting project progress to all levels of the organization.

• Understands Stage Gate Process methodology/ideology and utilizes and incorporates it in research projects.

• Demonstrates ability to network within and out of group.QUALIFICATIONS:

• BS Degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering

• Previous experience on with electroplating processes/equipment is highly preferred.

• Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to: demonstration of familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.

• Ability to work across functions and levels; empathy and understanding of Shopfloor personnel and ability to balance between short-term and mid-term projects.

• The Incumbent may supervise work of interns, Research Technicians or Engineers during project assignments.
