The Arc of Litchfield County, Inc. (Larc), is seeking professional, kind, caring, creative, and energetic Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full and happy lives. Spend your days positively enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) by providing support in every aspect of their life.

Whether it is in recreation, vocational, or a residential (group home and in-home setting), you can make a difference. Create fun and innovative activities to share with people who have I/DDs. The DSP position is hands-on. You will provide personal care that includes personal hygiene, food preparation, transportation, and community inclusion. QUALIFICIATIONS & TRAINING

 

QUALIFICIATIONS & TRAININGS:

  • All necessary training is provided and paid.

  • You must possess a high school diploma or GED and agree to a background screening and physical.

  • You must also be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

  • Some computer proficiency is necessary.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The DSP shall have essential physical skills: be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or ¼ own body weight), push/pull against potential resistance, and be able to implement non-physical and physical interventions and CPR with individuals supported when needed.

  • The DSP shall have adequate vision, reading, writing, and documentation skills, and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • The DSP must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.

  • The DSP will be engaged in speaking, sitting, walking, driving, listening, and in communicating both orally and in writing while performing his or her duties.

  • The employee must be able to listen and respond to questions and instructions.
