Responsible for performing moderately complex tasks necessary to maintain and improve the revenue cycle. Provides business expertise for all systems and the execution of user testing of new functionalities or upgrades that affect the department. Performs the data entry of medical services and inputs, updates and corrects patient information into the system from Encounter Forms and documents in accordance with policies and procedures as established by the department.

This position is full time. Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 6am - 6pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 19191 S Vermont Ave Torrance, CA.

We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate HealthCare Partners’ (HCP) commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer.

  • Audits work for accuracy, balances against controls and corrects mistakes.

  • Inputs and corrects patient demographic information in the system.

  • Assigns financial classifications to patient accounts.

  • Audits and resolves Enterprise EHR tasks communicating with site designees.

  • Researches and inputs all interface fatal errors to ensure complete and correct input of encounter data including Enterprise EHR, Digital Radiology and PatientKeeper interfaces.

  • Resolves Transaction Editing System (TES) edits including missing information edits.

  • Participates in the implementation of new systems and functionalities.

  • Reviews and reports discrepancies in system design or set-up.

  • Performs routine testing to keep department applications functioning which include testing updates in dictionaries, testing new TES edits and assisting with system upgrades.

  • Escalates issues that lie outside of required completion dates to appropriate levels of management.

  • Serves as a Team Leader on projects as required.

  • Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma / GED or equivalent experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • 1+ years of Data Entry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of medical billing or related job experience

  • GE Centricity Business experience.

Soft Skills :

  • Computer literate.

  • Proficient with Microsoft applications (Word and Excel).

  • 10 key by touch.

  • Knowledge of CPT and IDC-10 coding.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in an environment with fluctuating workloads.

  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines and needs of user community.

  • Ability to solve problems systematically using sound business judgment.

California Residents Only: The hourly range for this is $16.00 - $28.27 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
