Intuit Staff Software Developer in Toronto, Ontario

Overview

Come join the Canadian consumer product development team as a Staff Software Developer. The consumer product development team is responsible for driving innovation to deliver TurboTax Canada with delightful user experiences while maintaining the overall quality and accuracy of the product.

The ideal candidate is a Software Developer experienced with Java and has a strong knowledge of relational databases. As part of the team, you'll apply your full-stack technical, innovation, and collaboration skills while helping the team drive the technology and processes of how large-scale consumer web and mobile applications are developed and supported.

What you'll bring

  • Experience developing a public-facing cloud app at scale, where you gained expertise in all aspects of the web SDLC from design and implementation to deployment and operations

  • Proficiency in full-stack architecture and design that serves millions of users

  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices for such applications

  • Strong Java proficiency and experience with modern back-end frameworks like Spring Boot are essential

  • Proficiency in database management and professional experience administering Oracle Databases

  • Experience in leveraging Amazon Web Services for building scalable applications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field, or commensurate work experience and knowledge

  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills

  • Strong leadership experience: leading meetings, presenting, technical go-to person, and cross-functional leader

How you will lead

  • Write scalable web application code with the utmost attention to detail, inclusive of accessibility, performance, scalability, security

  • Build effective internal and external relationships that are essential to delivering awesome software

  • Leverage your technical leadership to mentor junior engineers and apply your wisdom towards solving our most difficult architecture and implementation challenges

  • Leverage industry trends to make the best technology choices and strategic decisions

  • Take vague customer problems and solve end-to-end with teamwork and accountability

  • Lead the gathering of functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and project and test planning

  • Act as a technical subject matter expert, mentoring fellow engineers, demonstrating technical expertise, and solving challenging programming and design problems

  • Roughly 40-60% hands-on coding

  • Generate technical documentation and PowerPoint presentations to communicate architectural and design options, and educate development teams and business users

  • Resolve defects/bugs during QA testing, pre-production, production, and post-release patches

  • Work cross-functionally with various Intuit teams, including product management, QA, Design, and/or business units, to drive results

  • Demonstrate a passion for developing well-architected, elegant, web, and/or mobile apps

  • Experience with Agile Development, SCRUM, or Extreme Programming methodologies
