Position Description

About us: The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is a health-care community dedicated to improving the health of children. The Department of Dentistry is a specialized service for the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with dental disease and related issues. The department is the largest facial cleft and craniofacial center in Canada and is led by an experienced team of paediatric dentists, orthodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, prosthodontists, and endodontists.

The members of the department are committed to excellence in child health through improved access to care, innovation, research and education.

What we¿re looking for: a part-time staff oral and maxillofacial surgeon for the Department of Dentistry at SickKids, located at 555 University Avenue, Toronto.

Primary responsibilities:

Through your activities, the Department of Dentistry will work toward the fulfillment of the goals and objectives established though the Hospital¿s strategic plan. Your responsibilities will include (but not are limited to):

  • Providing care to patients and supervision of trainees in the ambulatory clinics and operating room, as well as after-hours on call support of trainees

  • Working collaboratively and providing support to the dental team (clinical and administrative staff) through effective communication, meeting attendance and participation, continuous improvement suggestions, etc.

Work expectations are 2 days per month at SickKids to fulfill these responsibilities; with additional clinic and OR resources available to meet patient demands.

Other benefits:

Ongoing support of your professional development, conference attendance and associated necessary travel will be provided under departmental guidelines; time off will be provided to use for conferences, meetings, invited lectures or vacation.

Qualifications

  • Certified specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

  • Registered as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario

  • Oral and maxillofacial surgery fellowships and/or residencies considered an asset

  • Demonstrated professionalism as a clinical resource, coach and a role model

  • Ability to facilitate learning in others

  • Ability to provide supportive feedback to others
