What You’ll Be Doing

The successful candidate will provide research guidance to CIBC Wood Gundy Investment Advisors on a variety of investment funds with a primary focus on mutual funds including liquid alternatives. You will contribute to a number of publications including the firm’s Recommended Mutual Fund Report, model portfolios, and writing investment ideas reports for the Investments Strategy Group. You will also aid in approving structured notes, guaranteed investment certificates (GICs) and high interest savings accounts (HISAs) for sale at CIBC Wood Gundy.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Fund Manager Research - Conduct due diligence on mutual fund managers for the purpose of adding new funds to CIBC Wood Gundy’s approved list and making recommendations to advisors. Perform research and support the Executive Director, Investments in creating the Recommended Mutual Fund Report. As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Prepare monthly product reporting and ad hoc report requests.

  • Product Knowledge & Business Acumen - Monitor performance of the funds on the Recommended Mutual Fund Report and make recommendations for additions or removals. Strong contributor to maintaining paper-based model portfolios. Provide key support for regulatory requirements including Client Focused Reforms. Prepare and continue to update competitive surveys and industry trend analysis. As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls. This person is responsible for and accountable for ensuring that the review and approval process of new investment products is in compliance with the New Product Review Committee Manual. Must be willing to complete industry and internal courses.

  • Collaboration- Provide head office recommendations and support Mutual Funds for a sales force of more than 800 advisors. This job requires the person to actively participate in the New Product Review Working Team, a cross functional team consisting of representatives from Legal, Compliance, Operations, Structured Products and line of business representatives. Coordinate launch of new investment products with business partners including: review and execution of legal agreements, operations, technology and communications. Assist in the management of fund company relationships and partnerships by attending industry events and presentations. Manage special projects for the Investment Funds Team. Answer product inquiries from Investment Advisors. Handle escalated inquiries from general product hotline or other internal departments.

Who You Are

  • You have experience and s trong knowledge of mutual funds and the industry (familiar with National Instruments 81-102 and 81-105). Experience with ETFs and alternatives is also beneficial. Broad knowledge of investment products and strategy with a minimum 5 years financial service experience. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Proficient with computer software applications such as spreadsheet, word processing and presentation programs. Knowledge and understanding of Morningstar Advisor and Bloomberg. Working experience with Morningstar Direct is very beneficial. Must have strong Microsoft Excel skills.

  • You have a Undergraduate degree Undergraduate degree with a major/specialization in Business, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering.

  • You’re a certified professional. CSC and CFA are considered strong assets.

  • You have proactive problem solving skills with the ability to work independently to resolve complex queries in a timely and accurate fashion. Your strong analytical and project management skills will help you to answer the teams inquiries and solve problems efficiently.
