How will you make an impact in this role?

The Manager, Colleague & Labour Relations “CLR”, will be a member of the Canada Colleague Experience Group “CEG” (formerly Human Resources) and will be responsible for championing solutions that drive a fair and consistent colleague experience, support the business and minimize legal risk and exposure. While demonstrating the American Express Leadership Behaviours and Blue Box Values, this individual will:

  • Continuously seek opportunities to deliver the highest quality employment and labour relations solutions

  • Drive proactive, data-driven trend identification and solutions to support CEG and business strategies

  • Establish and maintain strong risk, control, privacy and audit practices across all processes, programs and partners

  • Build solid relationships with key partners within CEG and throughout American Express including Business Leaders, Compliance, Safety, Security, Internal Audit, Health and Wellness and General Counsel’s Organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Subject matter expert and internal resource for leaders and colleagues focused on handling complex and sensitive colleague concerns and investigations, including interpersonal conflicts in the workplace, terminations, colleague complaints, investigating allegations of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

  • Provide advice and consultation to Leaders and CEG partners with respect to reductions in force and reorganizations.

  • Manage and administer a broad range of tasks and projects, which include interpreting policies and procedures as well as ensuring adherence to and the effective administration of the performance management process.

  • Demonstrate a strategic approach to decisions and recommendations based on data-driven insights that positively impact the colleague experience across the market.

  • Facilitate training for business leaders, colleagues and CEG on appropriate Colleague & Labour Relations issues to maintain a productive workforce and to ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation in Canada.

  • Stay up-to-date with the provincial and federal regulatory and legislative landscape.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of dynamic HR experience with concentration in Employee & Labour Relations

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Human Resources or a related discipline; Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation preferred

  • Solid understanding of the Canada Labour Code, Ontario Employment Standards Act, Canada Human Rights Act and Ontario Human Rights Code

  • Prior knowledge and experience in conducting sensitive investigations

  • Strong organizational and presentations skills with a demonstrated drive for results

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to cascade complex messages in simple form

  • Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence leaders and colleagues at all levels, challenge the status quo, confront difficult issues and demonstrate a high degree of comfort with ambiguity

  • Change leader who exemplifies resiliency and creates an inspiring vision to help bring others along the change curve
