Canadian Tire Estimator in Toronto, Ontario

What you’ll do

  • Follow corporate estimating policies and procedures for the preparation of multistaged estimates, supporting all banners.

  • Assist in updating the Standard Models cost estimates and renewal costs.

  • Prepare project specific construction estimates for Real Estate Committee and Capital Expenditure approval.

  • Prepare estimates for comparison of alternate design layouts and value engineering proposals.

  • Provide up-to-date construction information and costing data to the Corporation’s Strategic Planning Department.

  • Ensure proper implementation of CTR base building and CTC leasehold cost allocations on all tenders and estimates.

  • Assist Project Managers with fixed fee management/sub-trade negotiations & C.M.

  • Review, evaluate, and negotiate, when necessary, change orders.

  • Perform construction analysis, comparing actual costs to planned costs on completed projects; documenting, extrapolating and tabulating information to establish construction industry pricing trends.

  • Maintain cost files on completed projects to allow for the preparation of estimates and comparison on future projects.

  • Provide ad hoc construction costing to Store Planning Group relating to proposed changes to the Prototypical Design.

  • Assist the Real Estate Department in setting replacement values on existing properties for insurance purposes.

  • Assist the Real Estate Accounting Department in the development, implementation and ongoing refinement of systems and reports such as project tracking to increase efficiency.

  • Travel may be required.

What you bring

  • Ability to read drawings and specifications. (estimate for building projects)

  • Demonstrated experience in construction project development methodology.

  • Proficiency in preparing elemental and divisional concept estimates from minimal information.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Previous experience with Estimating software would be an asset.

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills to communicate and engage with cross-functional teams.

  • Self-motivated, organized, and ability to work independently to prioritize workload to meet the demanding needs of an aggressive building program.

  • Analytical skills – ability to review and draw insights from large quantities of data in various formats – Excel/PowerBI experience preferred.

  • Atleast 2 years of building estimating or cost planning experience

  • Have membership or working towards membership with either CIQS, RICS or both.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Sciences, or College diploma in construction management and construction estimator
