The Large Market and WCS division (LM & WCS) in American Express is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic businesses within the organization. Reporting to the VP of Sales and Account Development, the Director, Sales (People Leader) will be responsible for leading a dynamic national sales team with the primary responsibility of acquiring and managing clients across Canada by leveraging a variety of tools and capabilities and drive insistent spend on our solutions.

The individual will have strong sales aptitude and a history of personal and team achievement in a sales capacity including superior territory management. Advanced sales coaching, value creation, and proven leadership competencies are critical in this dynamic role. Specific competencies include transformational thought leadership, will to win, commitment to employee development, customer focus, financial acumen, solution based consultative sales and the ability to create followership.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Lead a team of Large Market sales professionals to drive new business and establish strong market connections and business development strategies.

  • Deliver Against Sales Targets: Ensure teams consistently deliver on the promise through compliant sales processes. Utilize reporting to successfully identify prospects and effectively sell our suite of solutions. Support in driving customer spend enablement and market and territory penetration.

  • Partner with the Marketing and Product Teams: Collaborate and align campaign strategies, goals and lead generation that drive new account acquisition while achieving customer billings targets.

  • Collaborate with Account Development, SME, and Mid-market to increase market and wallet share.

  • Compliance monitoring to ensure sales and customer interactions are conducted within the current regulatory environment.

  • Train and upskill the team on complex solution selling and identifying key opportunities in financial knowledge and acumen through account planning.

  • Build Strategic Internal Relationships: Effectively collaborate with internal stake holders and leverage these relationships to ensure client satisfaction and spend enablement (e.g. credit, risk, GMNS, PPI).

  • Actively participate and engage in external events, build, and foster relationships with various industry associations and organizations.

  • Coaching and Talent Development: Effectively identify, coach, and develop overall talent for the team while providing a motivating sales environment while promoting best practice sharing and career development.

  • Create and develop C level relationships, understand financial goals and objectives, and link American Express’ value proposition.

  • Collaborate with and utilize Senior Leaders to advance the sales cycle and close opportunities.Aggressively explore/exploit lead-opportunities within assigned territory.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher.

  • Strong B2B Sales and Sales leadership experience with demonstrable experience of creating a high performing environment that motivates teams to achieve their collective goal.

  • Strong followership and demonstrable experience of driving success through others.

  • Superior Territory Management and FSA penetration strategies.

  • Ability to coach and develop sales managers to maximize performance while proactively managing performance.

  • Expertise in navigating sales pipeline development and management strategies across different segmentation.

  • Ability to performance manage and deliver clear development processes and plans.

  • Strong financial acumen, superior analytical skills, problem solving and collaboration skills.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence both laterally and upwards.

  • Working knowledge of One.force and strong forecasting and pipeline management skills.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, and relationship building abilities and the ability to communicate in a persuasive and compelling manner.

  • People leader experience is a plus.

  • The role will require travel for the various regions.

  • Permanent Virtual Position.

  • Preference Bilingual (not required).

  • Location preference Ontario (however flexible).
