The Oracle Database Administrator / Performance Tuning Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and implementation of database changes for our environments. Applicant will report to the Senior DBA group for guidance and direction. You will be involved in aspects of the software development cycle which will enhance Broadridge’s R•SUITE of wealth solutions and our clients’ experience.

Key Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain Oracle 12 / 19c databases supporting Broadrigde’s R•SUITE applications

  • Provide opinion and implementation of all Oracle patching and Oracle infrastructure maintenance/security

  • Provide insight on infrastructure running Oracle, and Oracle itself based on metrics, performance monitoring

  • Collect and analyze database performance reports (such as AWR, Statspack, Tkprof, DBMS_XPLAN) and provide interpretation and suggestion to improve the performance

  • Provide support for database and schema changes requested by internal stakeholders

  • Review, build and deploy database upgrade scripts include DDLs, DMLs, functions, procedures, PL/SQL programs, data changes and schema changes include tables, columns, indexes, types, sequence, views etc.

  • Review PL/SQL for performance and efficiency

  • Review infrastructure monitoring to maintain health and uptime for all Oracle servers.

  • Ability and flexibility to support and manage after hours production (24/7) and test issues as they arise (on a rotation schedule)

  • Meet all Broadridge defect and support item SLAs

  • Create or modify scripts to automate tasks as required

Create, Monitor & Maintain Internal Databases

  • Develop and maintain the scripts and programs needed for database maintenance

  • Create databases from exports, RMAN or OS backups, etc.

  • Create backups (exports or datafiles), both adhoc and scheduled

  • Monitor the performance of both the database instances and processes / reports

  • Manage the use of disk space on the database servers

  • Compare and validate database structure / schemas

​​​​​​​Database Builds & Deployment

  • Develop and maintain the scripts and programs that control the DB build process

  • Create scripts to apply the changes needed to migrate to a new build

  • Assemble the build package containing all of the DDL needed for the DB build

  • Test the build package to ensure error free execution and / or problem resolution

  • Apply upgrades to all relevant databases Review build scripts collectively for continuity & consistency

​​​​​​​Broadridge Open Development & Tuning

  • As part of various projects create or review and modify database components

  • Tuning SQL in long running procedures and reports

  • Re-engineer batch processes for better performance

​​​​​​​Support for QA

  • Troubleshoot performance problems

  • Creation, and/or packaging of database patches and data fixes

  • Apply patches for testing

  • Backup & restore databases in support of patch testing

​​​​​​​Support to Customers

  • Build a configure databases new clients, demos

  • Answer questions via email, phone calls, conference calls, bridge calls

  • Serve as experts and sounding boards to backstop client staff

  • On-call 24 & 7 support for multiple customers

  • Special on-call for single client projects

  • On-site for meetings, installations, problem diagnostics

​​​​​​​Answer Questions and Assist Employees

  • Answer database related questions

  • Assist in problem determination and resolution of Database problems

  • Provide guidance / leadership concerning methods and techniques

  • Code reviews

  • Stay abreast with current versions of Oracle software

​​​​​​​Support for ASP Customers in Production & Test Production

  • Setup production database from a converted database or fresh install

  • Full configuration of the environment to support automated jobs and clean-up

  • Monitor and maintain production database in archive mode

  • Troubleshoot performance problems, connection problems

  • Migrate database to new versions of Oracle software

  • Apply system upgrades to R•SUITE products as appropriate

  • Apply database patches and data fixes as required

​​​​​​​Test Environment

  • Backups and restores of the test databases as needed

  • Provide support for client testing of upgrades, patches, and data fixes

  • Migrate database to new versions of Oracle software

  • Apply system upgrades to R•SUITE products as required

  • Apply database patches and data fixes as required

  • Setup test databases as required

  • Monitor and maintain test database

  • Kill any required reports and processes

​​​​​​​Support for Client in Production & Test Production Environment

  • Setup production databases from converted databases as necessary

  • Provide DBA application support for both production databases

  • Kill any required reports and processes

  • Apply system upgrades to production database as required

  • Apply database patches and data fixes to production as required

  • Other duties as assigned by Management

Basic Skill Level Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, college diploma or exceptional equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience (10 preferred) as an application DBA in a Unix environment (AIX /Linux or Exadata)

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks on tight deadlines and in emergencies

  • Willing to work extensive "out of hours" periods when necessary

  • Willing to provide 24/7 support cover (on rotation)

  • Willing and able to mentor/train junior team members

Tools:

  • Deep understanding of Oracle structures and internal processes

  • Expert in Oracle SQ: and PL/SQL development

  • Fluent in the production of AWR, AWRSQL and ASH reports, analyzing their contents and formulating recommendations based on the analysis

  • Fluent in the use of Oracle client tools such as SQL*Developer, TOAD, etc. particularly using session browser to monitor running SQL

  • Fluent in the use of UNIX shell scripting (KSH) and Perl or Python (both would be ideal)

  • Practical "hands on" experience with Oracle 12/19c and RMAN backup/recovery are considered essential

  • Demonstrated experience with RAC and Data Guard

  • Practical experience with Oracle Exadata appliances
