What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Application Engineering/ECIS team. You’ll be at the heart of CIBC’s digital transformation, delivering complex, enterprise-scale application services projects involving multiple back-end systems. As a Consultant, Application Development , you are responsible for leading the technical design, development and integration of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems and provide enhancements to existing technologies. The role works on complex issues involving one or more technical areas, mentoring employees and performing tasks of advanced technical depth and breadth. The Consultant, Application Development collaborates with developers, architects, Business Analysts and infrastructure specialists to gather requirements and conduct research to evaluate the application of new and emerging tools and techniques, identifying patterns and best practices to consider in technology proposals while anticipating long term business issues. The role devises new methods and procedures using strong analytic and inductive thinking, developing project plans based on appropriate standards and methodology. You’ll be part of the team that performs technical design, development, maintenance and integration of software applications. You will maintain records to document program development and will provide support for existing production applications.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Design and development - Perform and coordinate complicated application programming activities. Design the application's technical infrastructure using specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches. Lead the design and development of cost-effective and innovative solutions.

  • Strategic planning - Develop multi-year technology roadmaps that align with the bank’s vision, strategy, and business goals. Lead multiple complicated projects involving backend systems, new technology, and the enhancement of existing applications.

  • Leadership skills - Act as a development lead and run code-review sessions with the wider team to ensure the project is on track to meet goals. Support and mentor intermediate and senior developers by sharing knowledge, collaborating and problem solving.

  • Managing Multiple Priorities : Manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups or activities. Effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation. Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.

  • Interpersonal Relationships: Demonstrate knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate experience in 8+ years of Java application development and support. You can clearly demonstrate technical understanding of Java/J2EE, JSON/REST API, RDBMS/SQL, GitHub, Docker, Maven/Gradle, Postman, Junit, App security Scan tools (Blackduck, fortify, SonarQube), Jenkins, CI/CD . You have work experience in structured Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile environment. Ideally, you have good verbal & written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to articulate yourself clearly to technology partners.
