What You’ll Be Doing

Capital Markets provides integrated services and products aimed at serving investors as well as corporate and institutional clients globally. The Capital Markets business is a recognized leader in the industry specializing in investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and research. These lines of business are achieving CIBC’s core purpose: to help make our clients’ ambitions a reality.

As an Associate, Centralized Governance & Controls, you will report to the Director, Centralized Governance and Controls (CGC) to ensure all governance & controls activities for Capital Markets are fulfilled. In addition, you'll assist with CIBC bank-wide projects and centralized processes.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Product Initiatives: You'll facilitate onboarding of product initiatives across Capital Markets and Treasury across all regions via an established approval process. You'll be responsible to prioritize and facilitate the approval of time-sensitive one-off transaction requests by engaging appropriate stakeholders. You'll act as a liaison between product initiative sponsors and stakeholders including Risk Management, Finance, Operations, Regulatory Change Management, Technology teams, etc. to expediently address and resolve issues and inquiries. It will be your responsibility to manage and track the product initiative life cycle from submission to prioritization, testing and obtaining approvals. You’ll participate in status update meetings with stakeholders and update and generate slides for meetings as required. You'll also identify ways to automate and streamline processes by leveraging automation, including the use of macros or computer coding languages, including but not limited to SQL and Java.

  • Change Management : You'll assist the team to provide governance on Capital Markets change initiatives via the Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) process including providing feedback to businesses, managing key stakeholders and leading administrative functions including but not limited to material review, material distribution, minute taking, seeking approvals from required stakeholders, facilitating meetings with key stakeholders, and ensuring action items are completed prior to launch.

  • Project Management: You’ll support the Line of Business (LOB) on CIBC-wide project implementation, including the development of policy / procedures, development of project plans, business requirements, executive presentations, and training materials. You’ll also be expected to lead and facilitate meetings with key stakeholders to work towards a project plan with key milestones, to subsequently be socialized with executives. You'll also assist with the management of records, using approved repositories and ensuring the businesses are in adherence with company policy.

  • Executive Reporting : You’ll support in developing materials and reporting to provide valuable insights to the Capital Markets executive team, by aggregating data through the use of available tools (i.e. Microsoft Excel, macros, Power BI, etc.).

  • Audit, Reviews and Deficiency Management : You’ll assist with deficiency management oversight by supporting the team with aggregating reporting data, facilitating meetings with deficiency owners, working with businesses to identify solutions for an action plan and drafting and/or reviewing documentation for submission to Risk Management and other stakeholders.

  • Ad-hoc Centralized Processes support : You’ll support the greater Capital Markets business by helping to act as delegated support for functions such as tracking employee completion of CIBC’s Mandatory Training Program, facilitating the delivery of mandatory compliance trainings, tracking mandated risk leave and assisting as the single point of contact for all escalated matters including privacy incidents and client complaints.

  • Cross-Functional Relationships: This position interacts with partners inside and outside CGC including liaising on a regular basis with individuals in the various Capital Markets Lines of Business and other CIBC Strategic Business Units, the broader Capital Markets Chief Administrative Office, as well as infrastructure partners (e.g. Global Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Privacy Office, Audit), regarding CIBC’s governance and control initiatives and programs.

Who You Are

  • You have an Undergraduate degree ; MBA/CFA/CPA is an asset.

  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in a Capital Markets or a corporate development function. You bring strong knowledge of Capital Markets products and an understanding of key processes. Project management skills would be an asset.

You have excellent working knowledge of PC applications (Excel, Word, Power Point). Familiarity with the use of Power BI and the use of macros or computer coding languages, including but not limited to SQL and Java.

  • You know that details matter. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making. You haveexcellent analytical and conceptual skills. Efficient organizational skills to respond to shifting priorities on simultaneous projects.
