What You’ll Be Doing

The Mid-Market Investment Banking group is a stand-alone team within Commercial Banking focused on serving the specific M&A advisory needs of companies with enterprise values ranging from $10 million to $150 million. With offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, Mid-Market Investment Banking is one of the largest M&A groups dedicated to privately-owned companies of all Canadian banks, and is ranked among the top mid-market advisors in Canada for the last 20 years as measured by aggregate transaction volume of M&A deals up to $150 million. As a Co-op Analyst, you will assist Analysts, Associates and senior bankers in executing all facets of the group’s mandates. This will include researching industries, potential buyers and public valuation metrics; working on in-depth financial models of acquisitions and recapitalizations; assisting in the preparation of extensive written documents including business development proposals and confidential information memorandums. Co-op Analysts will get tremendous exposure to experienced senior bankers and 1 on 1 mentoring from their colleagues through their 4 month work term.

  • You must be currently enrolled in post-secondary education and returning to full-time studies to be eligible. However, you do not need to be in a registered Co-Op program to be considered for a role.

  • Work Location: In person position. Further clarity on the work location will be provided at the time of your interview. Please note all employees must work within their current jurisdiction and must reside within Canada.

  • Duration of term: Winter 2 025 term (January-April)

How You’ll Succeed

  • Subject Matter Expertise – Become a “subject matter expert”. Proactively developing an awareness of M&A activity in the market, trends and developments in the global market.

  • Collaboration – Assist colleagues in preparing business development materials and on business development calls and meetings as required. Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals and pitch books. Learn and maintain the groups databases on a regular basis.

  • Analysis – Responsible for both quantitative and qualitative analysis and industry research. Valuation of businesses using comparable company trading analysis, precedent transaction analysis, discounted cash flow analysis and industry metrics.

  • Client First – Learn to proactively assess your clients’ needs and propose solutions to meet those needs, including products and services offered by other groups within CIBC.
