Our Finance team plays an essential role in maintaining a healthy balance sheet at AIG. It delivers significant finance support for the overall enterprise, optimizing operations, controllership, funding, and capital structure to honor our stakeholder commitments. The team’s work is invaluable to informing leadership decision making, complying with regulatory requirements, and maintaining financial discipline, transparency and controls, while providing timely and meaningful information.

This role will be a senior member of AIG Canada’s Controllership team and will have direct responsibility for preparing, reporting, and analyzing regulatory financial performance results for AIG Canada, as well as identifying and explaining any emerging trends that impact regulatory reporting requirements. In addition, the role will also be responsible in working closely with the CFO in preparing various Board and Audit Committee reports, as well as attending and preparing materials related to the Investment Committee and the reporting and variance analysis of capital. Additionally, the incumbent will be a critical member of the implementation team and a subject matter expert in the implementation of new IFRS standards, including the operationalization and roll out of IFRS 17 and IFRS 9. The role will assist the Head of the Controllership team, AVP Finance/Controller, in overseeing the day-to-day activities of the offshore Finance Centre (FC) team operation and the overall management of the onshore local team in Canada.

How you will create an impact

Audit Committee Meeting:

  • Prepare CFO and Investment package for quarterly Audit Committee meetings

Investment Committee Meeting:

  • Attend and prepare minutes for quarterly Investment Committee (IC) meetings

  • Prepare IC presentation deck for Audit Committee and Board meetings

External Audit by PwC:

  • Assist Controller with the overall management of the external audit, including but not limited to:

  • Preparation of annual audited financials and notes disclosures

  • Resolve audit queries and ensure timelines are being adhering to and any obstacles are managed and/or escalated as required.

  • Monitor overall status of PBC (Prepared by Client) list and other requirements via the role of “audit champion” for PwC

Local Statutory Close:

  • Review P&C return and local solvency test prepared by FC Team for quarterly and annual filings to federal and provincial regulators

  • Review and prepare (if required) Legal Entity variance analysis for balance sheet, income statement

  • Review and present to CFO/Chief Actuary local solvency walks and financial statement positions with variance analysis commentaries

US GAAP Close:

  • Review local STAT vs US GAAP comparative financial statement - prepared for tax provisions of standalone legal entity

  • Review Legal Entity income statement variance analysis

Financial Close:

  • Review/approve journal entries prepared by FC Team

  • Perform oversight and guide FC Team on investment related aspects

  • Review Balance Sheet reconciliations in the Blackline system

IFRS 17 System Implementation:

  • Participate as Canada core team member in discussions for system re-design, data sourcing, UAT, parallel run etc. in preparation for eventual system FPSL implementation

Others:

  • Support AVP Finance/Controller with day to day activities, execution of financial closes and other aspect in overseeing the Controllership function including the management of FC teams.

  • Drive process improvements and quality assurance

  • Work on ad hoc special projects and remediation initiatives when required

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • 6+ years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience at more senior level.

  • Insurance accounting experience

  • Professional accounting designation

  • Proactive team player, problem solver and strong people leader

  • Experience in managing teams – locally and remote

  • Strong interpersonal skills are needed to interact and work with various departments and across many different levels within the organization and with external parties

  • Excellent communication skills (both written & oral) including presentation development (Excel, Power Point, Word) and delivery

  • Strong analytical, planning and organization skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-matrix environment and deal with competing priorities

  • Proven resiliency and tenacity to perform well under pressure and regularly meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced and transformational environment
