Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Description/Job Summary
Company housing and transportation is provided during the work week.
Ability to operate, maintain, and inspect vehicles/machines and equipment to diagnose defects, analyzes malfunctions, and determines required repairs. Perform adjustments, repairs, or overhauls on sub and major assemblies and components. Dismantle and examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges and reassemble using necessary tools to accomplish required repairs. Replace defective vehicle components, engines and subassemblies such as automotive air conditioning systems, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, pillar blocks, hydraulic cylinders and motors as required. Test overhauled vehicles/equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Perform tire repairs of all types required. Accurately record details of work performed on work orders assigned. Research parts and materials as assigned by the Lead Technician. Perform maintenance under field conditions and perform vehicle recovery operations (including) wrecker operation, parts research, work order processing entries and other duties as assigned by the Lead Technician. Maintain shop cleanliness inside and out.
Required Experience
High School diploma or equivalent (requirement may be waived). 6 years' experience in motor vehicle maintenance or related expertise with employment as a vehicle mechanic for 12 out of the past 24 months. A well-rounded combination of formal training and hands on experience, (usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or an equivalent training program) may allow waiving one year of the required experience. Ability to research and understand technical data, wiring, vacuum, air and hydraulic diagrams associated with the vehicle maintenance field. Ability to glean hidden details from conversations with customers to more easily diagnose their complaint. Possess and maintain a valid Class "C" state driver's license. May be required to work in other areas or functions depending on mission requirements and changes (cross-utilization). Ability to utilize computer-based technical directives or service manuals and electronic engine control diagnostic equipment to diagnose vehicle malfunctions.
Physical Requirements: Ability to repetitively hold/balance, reach, flex, twist, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, squat/crouch, crawl, climb up/on and in and out of equipment/vehicles, and sit (all for short or long periods of time). Also has to be able to lift objects that weigh up to 60 pounds
Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and understand English. Have the ability to work independently using sound judgment. Some travel as required by company.
Preferred Experience
ASE certification in automotive air conditioning systems is preferred. Knowledge of Electronic Engine Controls is highly desired. Some minor gas and electric welding experience preferred. Class A or B Nevada CDL with passenger and or HAZMAT endorsements is desirable. Should have working knowledge in the use of MS Office software.
