Job Overview


The Specifications Manager is responsible for managing multiple work teams in a fast paced, high volume, unionized, manufacturing office environment. The Specifications Manager will be responsible for all part usage, part timing and engineering change implementation activity, thereby preventing, minimizing and eliminating all Production Control downtime due to part and/or Engineering change coordination. The Manager will achieve business metrics and implement World Class Manufacturing (WCM) tools and processes as they relate to material flow. The Specifications Manager will be required to manage systems and record integrity in support of the entire floor operation.

The Specifications Manager will report to the Planning, Timing & Control Manager and be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Plan the material use and part usage based on vehicle build requirements

  • Perform plant level supply chain management including the management of all inbound material flow for newly released parts

  • Accurately establish material routing information for all new and changed parts

  • Resolving, communicating and escalating part or timing concerns that may jeopardize plant production or create excess and obsolete material

  • Conduct engineering change communication meetings with plant personnel

  • Partner with Engineering, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Material Releasing, Supplier Quality, Plant Production Control, 3rd party service providers, etc., to facilitate resolution on critical part or timing concerns

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in one or combination of the following: material flow, material requirements planning (i.e. scheduling), and/or engineering change coordination

  • Provide support to organization on any shift and weekends as needed

  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability using Kaizen principles

  • Experience working with teams in a unionized environment

  • Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/develop team members

  • Strong background in LEAN manufacturing systems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Previous manufacturing supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Business a plus

  • Engineering Specialist, change knowledge, Bill of Material knowledge, WCM knowledge
