ProMedica Health System Respiratory Therapist - Invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring - Cardiac Perfusion Services - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Position reports to Manager, Cardiac Perfusion. Position has no direct reports.
POSITION SUMMARY The individual in this position performs perioperative clinical tasks for all ages of surgical patients’ including infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric populations. Standards of individual performance, skills, and clinical competence must be maintained according to hospital and department policies and procedures. Responsibilities include the set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment, operation of the intra-aortic balloon pump for circulatory support of the failing heart, and operation of a point of care lab that serves all operating room patients while maintaining College of American Pathologists (CAP/CLIA) license and accreditation. The individual must be committed to providing patients and families with a positive experience through compassionate care and excellent service.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Consults the OR schedule to determine invasive monitoring needs for the day’s surgical procedures. Responsibilities include the assembly, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment, which is necessary for arterial, venous and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring, and cardiac output measurements and calculations.
- Insures accuracy of multichannel physiological monitor tracings by means of precise calibration and effective troubleshooting throughout the surgical procedure.
- Assists the anesthesia care provider with patient positioning, preparation and placement of invasive lines, as requested.
- Responds to the emergent need and is responsible for the assembly and operation of the intra-aortic balloon pump for mechanical circulatory support for the failing heart.
- Operates a point of care blood gas/chemistry lab that serves all operating room patients. This duty includes proper specimen collection and handling, interpretation, and reporting of test results and critical values.
- Performs all diagnostic lab procedures within the job scope and specific field of specialty and training in accordance with standards of care, policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines, accreditation standards and role specific competencies specifically: completes pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic, laboratory activities.
- Adheres to all laboratory license. Responsible for scheduling and performing analyzer maintenance and calibration. Instrument performance monitored through quality control and external proficiency testing. Maintain the ProMedica Lab CAP/CLIA license and accreditation and operate according to their standards to deliver valid, accurate, patient lab testing results. Oversight provided by Lab Point of Care.
- Remains accessible to operating room staff. Assists team with patient transport to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) or Heart Vascular Intensive Care Unit (HVU) postoperatively, as available. Responds to pages and requests in a timely manner. Covers the needs of emergent cardiac surgery after scheduled working hours with “On call” duties and responsibilities according to call schedule.
- Completes accurate patient documentation, including billing and workload productivity standards.
- Assists with clinical instruction of nursing, respiratory care, residents and students, as needed. Actively participates in the orientation of new staff and contributes to the growth of others.
- Understands and acts in accordance with all department and hospital policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by leadership within the scope of training and practice. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program with a minimum two-year degree. Certification: Current Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT), Basic Life Support (BLS)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Years of Experience: Previous intensive care or surgical experience preferred.

Will remain current in his/her field of practice by actively participating in continuing education and maintaining applicable certification or licensure and annual competencies, as indicated. 2. Be dependable, reliable and punctual in accordance with department attendance policy, including on-call rotation.
WORKING CONDITIONS Physical Demands: Must be able to move about the hospital efficiently and effectively. Must be able to occasionally and with assistance, move heavy-weight materials, equipment or patients.
