ProMedica Health System Manager Specialty Lab - Lab Administration - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio
Responsible for planning, organizing, leading, developing, and coordinating the assigned technical specialty. Includes responsibility for system wide standard policies, procedures, and equipment. Additionally, maintaining a cost effective and efficient lab department, ensuring high levels of customer service and satisfaction, working with the medical directors and staff to develop, implement and maintain quality standards and improve performance.

With input from Medical Directors and department staff members, establishes a vision for the assigned technical specialty across ProMedica Laboratories- Core lab and Regional. Develops and implements strategies to achieve approved goals and objectives. Establishes a climate that promotes commitment and teamwork toward goals and objectives.
Fosters bi-directional communication with internal and external customers. Proactively communicates ProMedica Laboratories service changes to acute care, outreach, and other users of laboratory services; reaches out for and responds appropriately to the voice of the customer. Attends leadership meetings, serves on committees, and actively participates in quality and operational improvement activities across ProMedica, as needed.
Reviews, evaluates, and improves procedures and services to ensure high quality patient care. Remains knowledgeable about current trends and developments in the Laboratory field.
Ensures effective interdepartmental communication, team building and staff development by using any, and all tools deemed appropriate and necessary including maintaining visibility and accessibility, providing on-going feedback on performance, ensuring an effective annual performance appraisal process, operating a monthly in-service program, and holding regular departmental meetings. Interviews, hires, assigns work duties, and completes annual performance evaluations timely. Administers discipline when necessary and recommends discharge when appropriate. Takes ownership of employee satisfaction data; ensures effective staff communication using staff meetings, daily huddles and rounding; ensures availability to discuss concerns with staff and communicates effectively.
Oversees and directs the daily workflow. Ensures efficient operation of assigned areas and productive use of resources. Develops, maintains, and communicates staff schedules to meet service needs while ensuring worked hours meet targets. Prepares the annual budget for the assigned areas to meet organizational performance targets. Monitors budget performance and takes action to meet targets. Recommends items for capital budget.
Directs recruitment, selection, supervision, discipline, and evaluation of associates within the area of control. Recruits, trains, manage, coaches, and develop subordinate coordinators. Develops an effective leadership development plan for supervisors and staff.
Takes a systems approach to the delivery of services, ensuring that the services provided by the lab specialty area are consistent with the goals, objectives and needs of the organization and its various departments and customers.
Maintains accessibility to, and open communication with, the medical staff to ensure strong working relationships with physicians. Ensures positive physician, patient and customer relations are maintained by addressing questions, needs and concerns in a timely fashion and by acting as a liaison, when necessary, with the appropriate individuals and departments.
Ensures that the assigned sections remain in compliance with the standards and requirements of all pertinent regulatory and licensing agencies.
Remains current in the technology, trends, and the regulatory environment; maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional affiliations. Establishes and maintains local, regional, and national networks of professional contacts Education: Must have a bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
Skills: Must possess analytical, organizational, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills necessary to ensure efficient operations. Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.
Years of Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years clinical laboratory experience.
Certification: Must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands: Must be able to move about hospital and between workstations; and prolonged periods of standing. Must be able to travel between hospitals and work locations, as needed. Up to 5% of work time. Must be able to operate machinery. Must be able to move, lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs., 5% of the time. Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
