Microsoft Corporation Skills for Social Impact Regional Director in Tokyo, Japan

Microsoft Philanthropies (MSP) is a global social business that provides affordable technology and enables digital and AI transformation to nonprofits and intergovernmental organizations, AI skilling at scale to help everyone participate in the digital economy, and strategic community engagement initiatives, to expand opportunity for people around the world.

The AI National Skills Initiative (AINSI) is one of our primary programs to deliver AI at scale in priority Microsoft markets. As the Regional AI National Skills Lead for Asia, this role leads the AINSI program within the Asia region including:

(1) developing and executing strategic partnerships with government, education, private sector, and civil society (NGO/IGOs, industry associations, workforce development and labor organizations) to skill individuals and organizations at scale on generative AI,

(2) coordinating and aligning priorities to execute the AINSI with key internal stakeholders across local Microsoft teams,

(3) landing global Microsoft skilling programs, tailored to local country needs, (4) sharing breakthrough best practices and success stories with policy makers and influencers to further AI skills development within the country,

(5) managing and coaching the AINSI regional team.

Strategy/Program Management

  • Develops strategic vision and/or program frameworks for achieving top-priority Philanthropy goals.

  • Leads the formation and execution of Microsoft Philanthropy’s initiatives and programs on a broad range of issues and/or corporate responsibility topics, including designing and executing strategic initiatives, and identifying strategic business development opportunities for Microsoft to advance its long-term goals in Microsoft priority markets around the world.

  • Provides advice and counsel to executive management on unusually complex and critical philanthropic digital skilling, digital transformation and nonprofit capacity building issues or matters of concern to Microsoft and the industry.

  • Shapes Microsoft's policy agenda that addresses complex societal issues and business priorities.

  • Develops, implements, and executes philanthropic digital skilling, digital transformation, and nonprofit capacity building initiatives to address highly complex local, regional, national, and global community and civic engagement needs in alignment with Microsoft's corporate social responsibility standards.

  • Leads the management of large scale, executive level digital skilling, digital transformation and nonprofit capacity building initiatives that build resiliency, self-sufficiency, and opportunities for individuals and communities.

  • Develops and manages large scale, executive level project timelines, budgets, and plans for philanthropic digital skilling, digital transformation, and nonprofit capacity building programs.

  • Develops and implements processes to facilitate highly strategic program development, outreach, and execution, and assesses feasibility and impact of program extension to other executive level internal and external communities.

  • Provides thought leadership and/or champions initiatives and solutions that significantly impact the advancement of Microsoft, industry, and/or community long-term objectives and priorities.

  • Aligns and leverages resources across internal and external communities to ensure a positive impact of philanthropic digital skilling, digital transformation, and nonprofit capacity building initiatives.

Representing Microsoft

  • Advocates for and communicates Microsoft’s perspective on highly strategic philanthropic digital skilling, digital transformation, and nonprofit capacity building issues with executive level internal and external decision makers, thought leaders, and garners their support to significantly impact the advancement of Microsoft’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda.

  • Serves as a spokesperson for corporate social responsibility to drive and enhance company reputation.

  • Understands and applies deep, contextualized knowledge of Microsoft and Corporate and Legal Affairs strategies to drive results and program integrity.

  • Develops proposals for how Microsoft products and software can be used to solve societal issues and create opportunities in the community.

  • Leads discussions in internal and external events to inspire outreach and communicate information on Microsoft corporate social responsibility (e.g., philanthropies, accessibility, sustainability) programs.

External Relationships

  • Develops, influences, and represents Microsoft in strategic partnerships (e.g., nonprofit, advocacy, academic, government, and workforce organizations) to advance philanthropic digital skilling, digital transformation, and nonprofit capacity building programs.

  • Leads the implementation of improvements to major philanthropic digital skilling, digital transformation and nonprofit capacity building initiatives based on community and stakeholder feedback.

Internal Collaboration

  • Provides thought leadership for identifying and closing high-impact business development opportunities, removing roadblocks to drive business results, and strategically partnering with Microsoft Philanthropies team members and other key business/client leads.

  • Designs, leads, and collaborates on cross-group projects that are of strategic importance to Microsoft or that involve senior executive participation, to develop scalable and sustainable solutions.

  • Leads the resolution of competing policy approaches or priorities by collaborating with Microsoft Philanthropies senior management and other Microsoft senior executives to ensure a coordinated approach on issues with Microsoft-wide impact or high external visibility.

  • Proactively collaborates with and influences senior-level stakeholders across the company to guide business and product strategies, identify partnerships to grow the business, and ensure alignment of objectives, priorities, and resources.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND extensive experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies or government or MSFT related area.

  • OR extensive experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, or government or MSFT related area.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area.In-house counsel experience

  • Experience managing a corporate social responsibility or MSFT related program.

  • Demonstrable experience of people or team management experience.

  • Experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.
