Department Profile

MSMS Operations belongs to Morgan Stanley's Global Operations, and is part of MSMS' Infrastructure Division in Japan.

MSMS Operations is composed of Shared Services and Banking Operations (SSBO), Operations Risk & Regulatory

Control (ORRC), and ISG Product Operations (ISGPO). We follow the same organizational structure of that of Global

Operations.

SSBO’s main responsibilities are securities settlement, safe-keeping and related functions such as redemption / coupon /dividends, corporate action, cash settlement, and disbursement and forecasting of MSMS' funding.

ORRC ensures the entire MSMS Operations is regulatory-compliant, and manages regulatory risk across the entire division. Its main responsibilities are management and centralization of statutory reports, preparation and submission of regulatory reports, and client asset segregations, and disclosure on interests.

ISGPO supports products such as cash equity (stock loan inclusive), cash fixed income (repo inclusive), FX and OTC derivatives (equity-related, fixed income-related, FX-related), listed futures and OTC derivatives client clearing. ISGPO is responsible of client account opening and maintenance, booking of transactions, reconciliation with exchanges and brokers, preparation and distribution of client-related reporting, and collateral management.

Background on the Team

Japan Security Settlements is part of SSBO and is responsible for Fixed Income and Equity Settlement for Japan securities traded across the globe.This role offers an exciting experience and insights on the frontline of fast-evolving financial industry from a settlement field. The main goal of Japan Security Settlements is to maximize the settlement rate for bonds and equities on a contractual settlement day to maintain the liquidity in the market. As a leader of the team, the role will be engaging with variety of talents across the team, division, cities, and countries to tackle problems, market wide changes to process improvement initiatives utilizing some of the latest technologies available, whilst managing the team members from various backgrounds and experience levels. The team maintains profound training methods, including on-line materials to help you kick-start the career in the team and provide detailed insights to the industry.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Process Equity and Fixed Income settlements in local market as well as cash payments

  • Investigate and resolve settlement exceptions, post settlement breaks

  • Prepare payment and trade instructions and release to custodian banks

  • Escalate risks associated with the settlement and implement risk mitigation methods

  • Identify areas for process improvement to strengthen the control and increase efficiency of the process

  • Deliver quality service and solutions evolving business requirements

  • Lead the team with integrity and provide support and guidance in day-today and various projects.

Skills required

-Work experience in security settlements (preferred)

  • Knowledge of Equity and/or Fixed Income products and settlement market rules

-Experience as a people manager and strong leadership skills. Able to build a team based on trust with strong work ethics

-Consistently responds proactively and positively to changing circumstances

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills - builds solutions, and applies lessons learned

  • Adaptable and flexible to changes and new challenges

-Strong verbal and written communication skills - Fluency in Japanese and business level English is required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
