Administration 1 full-time salaried position located in Tokyo, Japan

The Managing Director, Japan is responsible for all local operations including sales and marketing, technical support, administration and finance and accounting. In Japan, Campbell Scientific Inc. addresses the three product markets which deliver Campbell Scientific products to our global customers. The Environmental market provides solutions for studying weather, meteorological research, hydrology and many other applications. The Energy market focuses on solar and wind power requirements and the Infrastructure market monitors dams, bridges, roads and railroads for structural health.

As a regional corporate leader, the Managing Director establishes local objectives consistent with the company’s ARCTIC values and financial scorecard. Because Campbell Scientific is recognized as a trusted advisor, providing quality measurement equipment and software, our regional team needs to provide technical support to the expectations of our research and commercial customers, and distributors.     What You'll Work on The Campbell Scientific Managing Director, Japan aligns global strategic objectives and regional center direction to develop and execute sales and marketing strategies, activities, and policies to grow revenue in Japan. This position oversees all local operations that enable Campbell Scientific systems, projects, services, and solutions to be profitably delivered, and to meet and exceed local client expectations. This job will ensure that local customer support is delivered to the highest standards of technical rigor and that Campbell Scientific is considered the foremost trusted advisor for the delivery of measurement information and actionable insights. The Managing Director contributes as a leader in the global Campbell Scientific organization by championing local client needs and by being recognized as a trusted advisor, influencer, and ambassador for Campbell Scientific. The Managing Director will manage all day-to-day operations of the Japan office including management of employees, customers, vendors, partners, assets, and finances. Key to this individual’s success will be to motivate, influence, and energize a high performing Japanese office team. You'll Support Your Team by Performing the Following Key Tasks

  • Manage Japan office resources within budget according to current local laws and regulations.

  • Manage the human resources of the office according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that conform to current local laws and regulations.

  • Assure that Campbell Scientific’s mission, activities, products, and services are consistently presented in a strong and positive image to local clients and partners.

  • Develop and deliver an operational plan to the regional director that aligns with the overall strategy within the APAC region.

  • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively execute the Japan office strategy.

  • Create and manage the Japan office short-term and long-term goals.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an employee recruitment and retention strategy/program (including compensation strategy and structure) that aligns with local needs.

  • Ensure that policies, processes, and procedures exist to enable growth within Japan and that comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

  • Maintain standards of performance and conduct performance reviews.

  • Create an environment with a positive team culture, team motivation, and staff engagement.

  • Staff planning, salary & bonus recommendations.

  • Direct local public relations and community participation efforts.

  • Direct in country efforts to identify and win environmental, renewable energy, and infrastructure markets sales opportunities.

  • Collaborate and align with the Regional Director and market group leadership to create and own the APAC Region revenue and expense budget.

  • Oversee and direct all Japan office functions, including administration, sales and marketing, manufacturing and operations, and research and development in accordance with the assigned scope of the Japan office.

  • Oversee the deployment of resources from the Japan office in support of the Campbell Scientific strategy.

  • Direct the creation of all sales and operating plans for the Japan office.

  • Build and foster relationships that create trust, open dialogue, and full transparency.

  • Motivate the Japan office team to act and engage them with a compelling mission and vision.

  • Drive outcomes with the ability to overcome adversity and resistance.

  • Drive continuous improvement throughout the Japan office.

  • Report monthly and quarterly results as required.

  • Deliver top line sales revenue in country.

  • Oversee Operating to budget and overall office profit.

  • Create profitable and efficient delivery of solutions and services to local clients.

  • Influence market share growth in the Japan region.

  • Ensure regular communication of all local market intelligence, market needs, competitive insights, and challenges to the Regional Director and global market groups

    What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or scientific field.

  • Master’s degree in business administration or equivalent business management experience in the environmental monitoring industry.

  • 5 -10 years of experience leading and managing sales and marketing teams and business operations in the field of environmental instrumentation and data solutions.

  • Fluency in English and Japanese language.

  • Knowledge of Campbell Scientific product line; multiple years of experience using the products.

  • Demonstrated ability to direct the efforts of sales within Japan and supervise marketing teams within a global organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to direct profitable business operations in Japan.

  • Ability to build long-term relationships and network effectively within the industry.

    Work Environment Office work environment and travel environment (travelling to meet with clients, potential clients and to conferences) Physical Requirements Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
