Neuberger Berman Controller Private Equity Finance in Tokyo, Japan

Summary:

Supporting our PE business team by covering fund accounting of our PE products (Separated accounts (FoFs)/ commingled funds) and client services by answering inquiries related to financial statements

Work alongside with PE business team to cover finance/tax/operation side of our wide variety of PE products through separate accounts (FoFs) or commingled funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Member of finance team responsible for the accounting and financing services of our PE products. (Answering inquiries from clients regarding fund accounting and dividend policy in timing of launching a separated account, daily client relations, cooperation with local finance teams)

  • Ensure our PE products (investments are all outside of Japan) are

1) accurately and completely accounted and reported in a timely basis

2) answered and/or investigated in a timely fashion when inquiry is received from the business team or clients

  • Support a team responsible for the accounting and financial reporting oversight for Neuberger Berman’s Private Equity business

  • Prepare detailed cash projections for fund liquidity reporting

  • Assist in preparation of LP specific reporting and responses to prospective client RFP

  • Work with investor relations to answer LP questions

  • Various ad-hoc requests from senior management and portfolio managers

  • Work collaboratively with the Japan Desk and finance team in New York

Qualifications:

  • Experienced fund accounting/financing of PE strategy (especially on FoFs) at domestic or international PE firms.

  • Experience as a fund controller in domestic or international PE firm is preferred.

  • 10+ years accounting/finance experience; CPA a plus, but not required.

  • Strong understanding of accounting theory and fund accounting and financial reporting

  • Fluent or business level of Japanese and English to communicate with global finance team.

  • Team player with high level of communication skill

  • Work proactively with flexibility and speed.

  • Highly detail oriented and organized in work

  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus

  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives

  • Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results
