Job Description
Responsibilities
Accounting:
Manage and oversee the entire monthly close process, including preparation and review of financial statements, providing accounting guidance, reviewing account reconciliations, review tax filings and deliver financials in a timely manner.
Manage, lead, and develop a team of accounting professionals (currently three) in Tokyo
Manage end to end accounts payable processes (Managing requisition/purchase orders, validation that invoices are compliant, prepare invoices for payment, etc.)
Manage the annual financial audit for multiple entities, including responding to the auditor’s queries and managing the audit timeline in order to deliver the financials in a timely manner.
Complete technical accounting analysis of major contracts and transactions
Provide oversight and direction to our local service providers of accounting, tax, accounts payable, and treasury services in Japan.
Tax:
Manage monthly and annual tax requirements, including annual tax return, consumption tax and withholding tax filings.
Ensure compliance with all municipal, state, and federal tax requirements in Japan
Financial Support:
Provide financial support to all departments in order to support the growth and development of our portfolio in Japan
Manage, track budgets and prepare reports to support the efficient financial management of our assets
Design, implement and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure compliance, standardize processes, improve efficiency and safeguard company assets at a corporate and country level.
Take ownership, provide solutions and coordinate with multiple functions on accounting, treasury or tax issues related to our projects
Support Portfolio Finance in maintaining compliance with project debt and equity agreements.
Establish best practices for coordination between the Japan and corporate offices.
Support developers, project managers, finance personnel, etc. on various finance-related matters related to greenfield developments, acquisitions, divestures, partnerships and joint ventures in Japan.
Propose and execute financial transactions that arise during the development of energy projects. For example, capitalization, decapitalizations, dividend payments, cost allocations, cost reimbursements, intercompany loans, among others.
Required Skills & experiences
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related
Bilingual in Japanese and English, both written and oral
10+ years of experience in accounting
Experience in energy, construction, or real estate industry’s preferred, but not required
CPC or CPA equivalent preferred
Existing understanding and knowledge of JGAAP
Multi-Site Organization or Public accounting firm experience preferred
Experience working with a multinational company based in the U.S.
People leader experience such as hiring, coaching, annual performance reviews, delivering constructive feedback, building positive work environment, and directing work of others
Ability to adhere to monthly, quarterly and annual department driven deadlines
Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office products is required
Understanding of variance / trend analysis with actual/budget/historical results
Strong interpersonal & communications skills – able to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Strong teamwork spirit
